Over the past two days, three Fayette Resources team members traveled to Washington, D.C. to join fellow advocates from Pennsylvania and neighboring states for a unique experience focused on the power of storytelling and advocacy.
Representing Fayette Resources were Georgie Provance, Director of Government Relations & Communications; Brittney Metzger, DSP/Site Coordinator and incoming member of ANCOR’s next DSP Ambassador cohort; and Rachel Frye, Director of Community Participation Supports.
The trip began with a visit to a Moth StorySLAM, where advocates experienced firsthand how personal stories can inspire, connect, and create understanding. Today, they put that lesson into practice by meeting with elected leaders and congressional staff to discuss issues impacting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and the professionals who support them.
Conversations focused on protecting and strengthening Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), advancing the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) bill for Direct Support Professionals, addressing the DSP workforce crisis, supporting modernization of SSI asset limits, and highlighting the vital role disability service providers play in local communities and economies.
We are proud of Georgie, Brittney, and Rachel for representing Fayette Resources and for helping ensure that the voices of people with disabilities, their families, and the direct support workforce were heard on Capitol Hill.
Thank you to ANCOR and Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disability, our national and state associations, for leading the way on advocacy for HCBS services.
Advocacy matters. Stories matter. And together, they help create change.
