Fayette County Community Action Agency, Inc. "Let us carry forward the plans and programs of John F. President Lyndon B. Participation of the Poor in the Community Decision-Making Process.

At the FCCAA, our mission is to strengthen individuals and families to become more self sufficient, achieving their potential by taking advantage of opportunities, improving the conditions in which they live and taking ownership of their community. After the assassination of President Kennedy in November 1963, President Lyndon Baines Johnson expanded the policy ideas initiated during the Kennedy a

dministration. Kennedy, not because of our sorrow or sympathy, but because they are right... .This administration today, here and now, declares an unconditional War on Poverty in America.... Our joint federal-local effort must pursue poverty, pursue it wherever it exists. In city slums, in small towns, in sharecroppers shacks, or in migrant worker camps, on Indian reservations, among whites as well as Negroes, among the young as well as the aged, in the boom towns and in the depressed areas." Johnson
Message to Congress on January 8,1964

A hallmark of American democracy is the tradition of individuals forming organizations to protect and advance their common interests. This tradition of group activity has become an important part of our decision-making process, making it more responsible to citizens needs. Thus, business and trade associations, labor unions, professional societies civic associations ethnic groups and other special interest groups have influenced public policy and helped shape political, economic and social decision-making processes. The Community Action Program builds on this tradition and extends it to include the poor, who have not fully participated in the past. Community Action Agencies have a responsibility to broaden the scope of opportunities within their own agencies and in the larger communities for participation of the poor, and to help the poor equip themselves to take advantage of these opportunities. Last Friday, we had the opportunity to bring our mobile food distribution to Banning, providing food boxes and additional food items to local families.

Our goal is to help families put food on the table and fill their pantries with items they can enjoy throughout the month. We’re thankful for everyone who helped make the distribution possible and for the opportunity to serve our community.

During Hunger Action Month -- and throughout the year -- every action matters. Together, we can help fight hunger and ensure our neighbors have access to the food they need.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, volunteers, and everyday people who came together to help others in a time of unimaginable need.

Their example reminds us that service matters. When our neighbors face difficult times, small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. Whether it’s providing resources, lending a helping hand, volunteering, or simply being there for someone in need, we each have a role in building stronger, more compassionate communities.

🌟Experience WORKS! Worksite spotlight! 🌟

This month, we’re excited to spotlight one of our valued Experience WORKS! Program partners — the East End United Community Center (EEUCC)!

The collaboration between Fayette County Community Action (FCCAA) and the East End United Community Center (EEUCC) has been going strong for many years. Both organizations have worked tirelessly within Fayette County to strengthen families and communities.

One of the best parts of this collaboration is the connection with Experience WORKS! Program. For many years, EEUCC has provided a great work environment for young people to learn about the struggles and the triumphs of their neighbors. These worksite placements have provided a very hands-on approach to social services and teaching careers. EW youth working at the EEUCC have operated in many different roles. They assist with the Little Legends Daycare, the 21st Century Afterschool programming, Silver Generations senior group activities, the community food pantry, and the overall maintenance and clerical aspects of a community center.

In 2026. the program placed two wonderful youth to continue this tradition. In the first photo you will see Angeleena B. (pictured with afterschool Program Director Tessa) who worked for the Center this summer. Although she was often seen at the front desk greeting visitors or directing phone calls, her favorite duty was with the kids! She assisted with the summer school activities and became a strong role model to the students. Angeleena is a student at the CTI Autobody program and hopes to own her own body shop one day specializing in classic cars!

Next up, you can see Da’Zarie W. assisting in one of the classrooms. She plans to work this fall with either Little Legends Daycare or the Century 21 Afterschool Program by providing tutoring assistance, group activities, and an overall smile to everyone who enters the building. Da’Zarie is very busy with her schoolwork and her many extracurricular activities. Her planned career path is to work in medicine, and we have no doubt she will accomplish whatever goals she sets for herself!

Both youth are appreciative of the Experience WORKS! Program, funded through the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board and the East End United Community Center for giving them a chance to not only earn a paycheck but develop their skills and increase their awareness about the community in which they live.

The Experience WORKS! program still has a couple of open spots for the Fall, but it ends at Thanksgiving. Call Marlene at (724) 437-6050 ext. 3282 for more.
