🏈 MEET KACIE GREGORY 🏈
PE Teacher | Sims Middle School
Kacie Gregory spent 12 years in healthcare billing, but her heart always belonged to sports. When the opportunity finally came to pursue her passion, she took it—and now she's in her hometown, coaching the sport she loves, and inspiring students to find their own passion. 💪
Home:
Kacie is originally from Union, and one of her favorite student memories? Being the bumble bee mascot at pep rallies in 5th and 6th grade! "I loved being on the field on Friday nights and being part of the excitement and school spirit."
Teaching in her hometown means giving back to the community that shaped her and inspired her to become an educator.
Her Legacy:
Her mom has taught in Union County Schools for 48 or 49 years (who's counting after 40?! 😄). Growing up hearing her stories and seeing the relationships she built made a lasting impression. Now Kacie is doing the same.
What She Brings:
"I hope to bring a positive attitude, energy, and a genuine passion for working with students." Kacie wants students to feel encouraged, supported, and comfortable being themselves while learning the importance of hard work and teamwork.
Real Kacie:
• Competitive: Super competitive and always up for a challenge 🏆
• Family person: Loves watching her daughter cheer, loves Tennessee football 🏈, and spends time at the lake with family
• Reality TV lover: Her guilty pleasure is reality TV (and the occasional lazy day)
• Dolly Parton fan: Would have coffee with Dolly Parton because she seems to have amazing stories and a heart of gold
First Impression:
"I love how welcoming and supportive everyone has been. As a first-year teacher, I have felt at ease because everyone is so encouraging."
Her favorite local spot? Mexican food, of course! 🌮
Welcome home, Kacie. Your students are going to love your energy and passion! 🙌

💛 MEET LaQUITTA WALLACE 💛
Student Support & Rise and Thrive Program | Union County Schools

LaQuitta didn't expect to end up here. When she first moved to Union, taking this path seemed daunting. But the moment she walked in, people wrapped their arms around her and made her feel at home. Now? She can't imagine being anywhere else. 🙏

Why She's Here:
For LaQuitta, working in schools was a calling she didn't see coming. What started as a new adventure became her purpose. She loves the energy, the people, the chance to invest in young lives. But most importantly, she knows her students genuinely trust her, and that means everything.

Her Approach:
LaQuitta leads with listening. She doesn't just work alongside students in the classroom, she gets to know them as whole people. She meets them where they are, celebrates their wins, and shows up when things get tough. That's how real connection happens.

What Drives Her:
This job has stretched her in ways she never expected. She's discovered strength she didn't know she had. Watching her students grow because they know someone believes in them? That's what keeps her going.

Real LaQuitta:

Snack Goals: Key lime cake, Welch's gummy snacks, Mountain Dew. That's her happy place. 🍰
Work-Life Reality: "I'm still learning to balance pouring into others without emptying myself out."

What She Wants People to Know:
You can do hard things—even when you're figuring it out as you go. Don't wait until you have everything figured out to make a difference. Show up, stay humble, keep learning, and trust that you're exactly where you need to be.

Thank you, LaQuitta, for your realness, your growth, and your heart for our students. 💙

💜 MEET GEORGIA BRASHIER 💜
2nd Grade | Monarch Elementary School
Georgia Brashier has been teaching 2nd grade for six years, but Union County is her new home. After marrying her husband from Union and transferring from Anderson District One, she's found exactly where she belongs. 💕
Her Story:
Growing up with ADD and dyslexia, Georgia struggled in school. But her teachers provided extra support and showed her such love and encouragement that she decided right then: I want to help other students the way my teachers helped me.
Now, she's living that mission.
Her Classroom:
Georgia creates an inclusive, safe, and nurturing environment where all young learners feel supported, valued, and encouraged to grow—socially, emotionally, and academically. "I hope they remember feeling safe, valued, and encouraged in my classroom."
Real Georgia:
• Gamer: She loves playing Fortnite (yes, her students have discovered this! 🎮)
• YouTuber: Her guilty pleasure is YouTube scrolling
• Lake life: Free weekends are spent at the lake with friends and family
• Taylor Swift fan: If she could have coffee with anyone, it'd be Taylor Swift! 🎵
• Big family: She has 7 siblings and 4 nephews and a niece all under age 5
First Impression:
"Everyone has been very welcoming and quick to help in any way!" Georgia even noticed how super positive everyone is.
Favorite Spots: El Poblano & Starbucks ☕
Welcome to Union County, Georgia. Your students are lucky to have a teacher who truly understands their struggles and believes in their potential. 🙌

🎓 Signing Day Celebration! 🎓

We are so proud to celebrate two of our Union County High School seniors today! Congratulations to Aydan Pridemore and Anthony Perkins on signing their letters of intention for Gestamp's Work-Based Learning program!

Both students are completers of Mr. Whelchel's Machine Tool class, and we couldn't be more excited about this incredible opportunity for them. Today, they signed their commitments in front of their families, school representatives, and community members at Gestamp's Union County facility.

This innovative partnership with Gestamp—our county's number one employer—provides our students with real-world job shadowing experiences across all areas of manufacturing. From operations to Health & Safety to Logistics, our students will gain exposure to diverse career paths and see firsthand what a career in manufacturing looks like.

A special thank you to Gestamp for developing this program and investing in our students' futures. This is exactly the kind of community partnership that opens doors for our young people!

Best of luck, Aydan and Anthony! We're cheering you on! 🏭

The Union County School District Board of Trustees held a work session last night to continue discussions around capital improvement planning and review three potential pathways for school facility projects across the district.

The discussion included current facility conditions and needs across our schools, along with different pathways the district could consider if voters approve the proposed penny sales tax referendum this November.

Following discussion and review of the three pathways presented, the Board approved a motion directing Superintendent Dr. Matthew Woods to further explore Pathway 3: CTE Partnership. Based on the Board’s discussion, this would include exploring the construction of a new elementary school to serve the Foster Park and Monarch communities, along with the potential development of a new Career & Technical Education Center in partnership with Spartanburg Community College. Other improvements across the district would be considered based on available funding capacity.

This direction allows the district to further develop the concept, explore partnership opportunities, evaluate costs and funding capacity, and bring additional information back to the Board for consideration.

For more information about the proposed penny sales tax referendum and to watch a recap of last night’s Board work session, please visit https://www.union.k12.sc.us/article/3078100 for additional details.

💛 MEET MRS. SPENCER 💛

7th Grade ELA | Sims Middle School

Hannah Spencer is proof that the best teachers are the ones who let you see their humanity. She keeps it real—literally. 🙌

The Real Talk:

How She Connects: She's not afraid to be herself. She keeps up with middle school trends, shares playful jokes, and most importantly, shows her students she's human too. "I don't have a problem showing them that I'm human," she says. And that's exactly why her students feel safe being themselves around her.
Her Parenting Advice: "Let your child struggle a little" (and yes, she's learning this with her own 2-year-old! 😅). She believes growth mindset beats perfection every time, and she's right.
On Balance: "Being a good teacher doesn't mean being available 24/7." Hannah learned the hard way that her students need a rested, happy, present teacher—not a burned-out one. So she intentionally protects her time with family and reminds herself: my best happens when I'm whole.
Her Secret: Want to know something her coworkers don't know? Behind that "girlie girl" vibe at school is a total daredevil who loves adventure and stepping outside her comfort zone! 🪂

Hannah Spencer is changing what it means to be a teacher—one honest conversation at a time.
