For anyone who was curious, Snowball was never claimed. She is officially a Wilcox kitty - now living her best life surrounded by lots of love and blankets. Thanks to everyone who shared the post and to Pope Memorial for helping us make sure she got what she needed.

It's that time of the year - Trunk or Treat time!

Join us on Friday, October 31 at 5:00 PM for a fun, family-friendly Halloween evening full of costumes, candy, and community spirit!

Kids of all ages are invited to trick-or-treat from decorated car trunks in our parking lot. It's a safe, festive way to celebrate Halloween - and we need help to make it extra special!

Want to host a trunk?
We're looking for a few more volunteers to decorate their vehicles and hand out candy. It's a fun way to get involved and bring some spooky joy to local kids.

Candy donations are also welcome anytime leading up to the event, just stop by the library and drop them off.

To sign up your trunk or ask questions, contact us at 207 785-4733 or [email protected].

Let's make this Halloween magical!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of spending a lot of time in our schools 🏫

What do we have in our district?
-Amazingly dedicated, innovative, kind, and passionate professionals teaching, supporting, and advocating for our kids.
-Wonderful programming that encourages engagement, creativity, and collaboration in the classroom.

We also have a high school that is crumbling. The physical structure is literally falling apart. Our facilities team has done an incredible job trying to keep up and make improvements, but there’s only so much we can bandaid. We are at risk of losing our accreditation - not because of our educational offerings or the learning that is happening - but because of the state of the building. There is asbestos in the tiles, there are leaks all over, the electrical supply is inadequate, the list goes on.

Our staff is doing inspiring work on the daily supporting our students who are the workforce of the future. I ask you to take a moment to do a few things over the next few months as we go into budget season.

Please learn more about the positive things that are happening in our schools. Attend a board meeting, call your local administrator, meet with your child’s teacher. Go tour our schools. Our teachers, staff, and students are so much more than test scores and standards. However, if we are expecting them to meet test scores and standards, we must equip them with the tools to be successful. One of those tools is a healthy, safe, building that they can be proud of.

Included in this post are some photos of the wonderful things happening in our schools as well as some photos taken on a recent tour of our high school. All photos are of areas where students are actively present and learning.

As we prepare to start a new school year, I’m hopeful for a sense of common good in prioritizing the education of our children to prepare them to be thoughtful, engaged, kind, compassionate leaders.

We have an amazing line up of people at UES ready to hit the ground running — from our new principal, Dr. Rankin, to the support staff, teachers, custodians, educational technicians — and I can’t wait to see the wonderful things we can accomplish when we work together.
