🚑 Celebrating 15 Years of Service! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Captain Haley Marley on reaching 15 years of service with Union Ambulance District! ❤️

Haley reached this incredible milestone in August, and we’re a little late getting the celebration posted—but a milestone this important deserves to be recognized!

For 15 years, Haley has dedicated herself to serving our patients, supporting her fellow crew members, and helping make UAD the organization it is today.

Thank you, Haley, for 15 years of dedication, leadership, and service to our community! 👏🚑

Here’s to many more! 🥳

If we get grant money, why do we need tax money? Fair question.

Nearly every grant we receive is restricted to a specific program, piece of equipment, or training purpose, for a fixed term. Grants cannot cover the day-to-day costs of keeping ambulances staffed and on the road: fuel, insurance, vehicle maintenance.

We look for outside funding before we look to local taxpayers. Grant dollars have bought power cots, cardiac monitors, a LUCAS chest compression device, video laryngoscopes, and two Tahoes for our command and Mobile Integrated Health programs. They built our Mobile Integrated Health program, and brought a national field training program to Union at no cost to our neighbors. They have also paid for paramedic, AEMT, and critical care training for our staff.

Chasing grants takes staff time with no guarantee of an award. We apply anyway, because every outside dollar is one we don't have to ask this community for. The sales tax question on the November 3 ballot concerns the recurring costs that grant funding cannot be relied on to cover.

If you have driven down Church Street, you have likely seen the construction at our main station! We want to share how this project is funded and why it became necessary.
The remodel is funded through a dedicated capital improvement fund that was saved specifically for facility infrastructure, completely separate from our daily operations budget.
Why the remodel? Simply put, the district outgrew the original building. Over time, it became necessary to convert a workout room into a makeshift bedroom, and our Mobile Integrated Health Captain had to work out of the file room. The facility lacked the physical square footage to accommodate our on-duty staff, students, and new recruits. When classes or meetings were conducted, parking constraints were spilling over into neighboring businesses. This project safely accommodates our 24/7 crews and provides the infrastructure needed to serve our community for decades to come.

🥪 Jimmy John’s to the rescue! 🚑

They must have known our crews were going to need a late-night snack! 😂

After catering an event at East Central College, Jimmy John’s had some leftover sandwiches and generously dropped them off for our crews at Union Ambulance District.

Nothing makes a crew happier than hearing, “There’s free food in the station!” 😋

Thank you, Jimmy John’s, for thinking of our crews and helping keep our team fueled and ready to serve our community! ❤️🚑🥪

We appreciate you!

Our district's roots run deep. Back in 1969, neighbors gathered around the Oltmann family’s kitchen table to create our local ambulance service. The funeral home generously donated their entire ambulance business, including a 1963 Cadillac and $6,000 in gear. In 1974, the community officially established the tax district to keep these vital services running. We proudly remember our history. On Tuesday, November 3, local residents will decide on a ballot question proposing a half-cent sales tax increase to fund operations. Over the next ten weeks, we will share exactly how your ambulance district works, what it costs to run, and detailed information about this specific tax proposal. Follow along each week to learn more about our equipment, our dedicated staffing, and how this measure addresses the growing emergency medical needs of our shared community.
