This week our Naturalist, Maggie Stephenson, had the opportunity to join Boone County Conservation District, Kentucky for a workshop to share and test out new programs. It was a great experience to make valuable connections and share knowledge. Stay tuned to see what new programs could be coming to Big Bone Lick this year.

The Kentucky Department of Parks is currently seeking a full-time Facility Maintenance Supervisor I to operate and oversee all facets of facility maintenance at Big Bone Lick State Historic Site.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Supervision of maintenance employees in general maintenance and housekeeping
• Interpretation of policies and procedures
• Operational reporting
• Facility Management Systems to include inspecting facilities to determine problem areas for correction
• Recruiting, supervising and training maintenance

Minimum Requirements:
EDUCATION: High school graduate

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services or mechanical maintenance experience.

$24.72-$27.47, hourly.

Show off your chalk art skills at our Art in The Park program! Use provided stencils to make your own Ice Age murals or go freestyle and let your creativity flow. Our recreation team will be at the museum Sunday, May 31, at 3:00 p.m. ready to decorate the sidewalk.

If you've ever wanted an opportunity to use an atlatl, join the recreation team at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30, behind the museum for a session of atlatl throwing. If you're not sure what an atlatl is or how to throw one, no worries! We will teach you the history and the form.

Calling all fossil lovers!!

Join our recreation staff at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29, at the museum for a Fossil Hunter program. Learn about the origin of the limestone bedrock found in the region and then test what you learn as you look at fossils in the nearby creek.



Fossils cannot be taken home. Please remember to help protect the park’s resources and leave no trace! Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.

Join our staff here at Big Bone Lick for a day of fun this Memorial Day. There will be a presentation on the park's fossil history at 1 p.m. and you can test your aim with atlatl throwing at 3 p.m. While you're here, stop by the bison field and say hello to our three new herd members.
