Just after 3am this morning we were called out to a kitchen fully engulfed on the corner of Fir and 2nd st. Initial page out was called a first alarm, as URFPD responded, the incident was escalated to a second alarm and upon arrival to the scene, a third alarm was called.

It quickly spread through the house and a nearby trailer. Everyone was able to get out in time including a dog. A huge thank you to City of La Grande Fire Department, La Grande Rural Fire Protection District, North Powder Rural Fire Protection District, Cove Rural Fire Protection District, Imbler Rural Fire Department, City of Union, Oregon, Avista Gas Company, and OTEC for your assistance.

Today URFPD responded to a single vehicle crash. Fortunately the driver was the only occupant and was transported to the hospital with a couple lacerations, abrasions and a possible concussion for further evaluation.

This is was a reminder that gravel roads can cause you to lose control of your vehicle quickly and end up in the ditch. Maintain vigilance and watch for hazards when driving on gravel roads.

It seems there is a report everyday about a fire in a truck or disposal or recycling facility caused by the improper disposal of Lithium-Ion batteries. A combination of customer education, employee training and prevention are needed to reduce the danger of mismanagement of Lithium-Ion batteries.

Cell phones, power tools, cordless kitchen devices, rechargeable headsets/ear pieces, battery powered toys and other household items are typically powered by lithium-ion batteries or a similar battery. All can be dangerous!
