Are you a quick-thinking, calm, and resilient individual who wants to be the vital link between citizens in distress and the emergency help they need? Monroe County E-911 Center is seeking dedicated 911 Telecommunicators to join our team of first, first responders. As the voice of calm in a crisis, you will have a direct impact on the safety and well-being of our community.
What you will do
• Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, texts, and other requests for assistance.
• Gather crucial information from callers, often in high-stress situations, to assess the type and location of the emergency.
• Dispatch appropriate first-responder units, including police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS).
• Provide life-saving pre-arrival instructions to callers, such as CPR or first aid, while resources are en route.
• Monitor and track the status of emergency units in the field and coordinate with other agencies as needed.
• Enter and maintain accurate, detailed records of all calls and dispatched activities in a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
• Remain calm, professional, and empathetic while managing multiple priorities and different personalities.
Required qualifications
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Proficiency in typing and basic computer applications. Preferred 35-45 words WPM.
• Excellent communication skills, with a clear and effective speaking voice.
• Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as our center operates 24/7.
• Successful completion of a background investigation and pre-employment testing, which may include typing, hearing, and psychological evaluations.
• Valid Driver’s License.
Compensation and benefits
• Starting Pay: $12.50 per hour.
• First Two Years: Hourly rate increases from $12.50 to $14.00.
• Within Four Years: Achieve top pay, ranging from $14.00 to $18.00 per hour.

• Retirement: 20-year retirement program.
