6/17 WILDFIRE UPDATE 10:30pm:
The fire is contained and the Air Tractors are done dumping water for the night. Campers will spend a night in town and return to camp tomorrow.

6/17 WILDFIRE UPDATE 8:45pm:
Smoke jumpers have been deployed and will be working to put out the fire. Please steer clear of the area and allow them handle it. Campers are out of harms way & holding at the bridge.

Campers are safe and are being brought back to town. BLM has smoke jumpers coming in.

ACTIVE WILDFIRE:
Below Ayuu’s. BLM has been contacted and is mobilizing. For safety, Bible Camp is evacuating to the bridge due to the direction of the wind.

PSA: Unalakleet residents please take caution as the weather continues to warm up and ice in the river continues to melt . Parents please keep an eye on your children and talk to them about the dangers of current ice conditions and remind them to stay off the ice and away from the open water this includes the lakes in town, the slough, and the ocean. Remind them that the large puddles in town may have ice underneath that has not melted and it can be slippery.
Hunters please let someone know where you are traveling and when you will return. Travel with a friend in daylight and avoid unfamiliar areas.
If you see something unsafe, say something. If someone is in danger or you see someone fall through the ice, do not attempt to rescue them by entering the body of water yourself - this can as victims to the situation. Instead yell for help, call 911 for search and rescue, find a rope or stick to throw to them if you can.

🚨 Safety Reminder: School Drop-Off & Pick-Up 🚸 🚨

Dear Unalakleet Community,

We want to remind everyone to stay alert and drive cautiously during school drop-off and pick-up times. These are high-traffic moments with young children walking, running, and heading home.

✅ Slow down in school zones and parking areas.
✅ Watch for students, especially near the DO and UNK School Entrance.
✅ Remind children to look both ways before crossing a road or traffic area.

Tomorrow morning at 10 am the school MPR, the Alaska Safe Riders will be teaching students about safe driving techniques, and helmet safety. They also have several helmets that kids can try on and take home. I’m looking forward to seeing some our kids there!
