Good Morning Mendocino County! The cold weather is here and Holiday Season is upon us. The Mendocino County Deputy Sheriff's Association is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the men and women of the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office. We also have members within the Investigation Bureau of the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office and the Welfare Fraud Investigations Unit.

Many of our members support our community in different ways. We coach, teach, volunteer and shop local. We also donate thousands of dollars each year to benefit local non-profit organizations; as well as provide thousands of dollars to scholarships to help our local youth attend higher education.

In today's world, local businesses are struggling to get by, and we strive to support them in any way possible. We urge you to do the same. We know it is easy to click on your online cart and have a package show-up on your front porch in a few days. Before you do so, think of keeping your money local and helping a local business stay afloat. It could be a few more dollars, but it helps someone in our community.

Thank you to all out there who are making Mendocino County such an awesome place to live!!!

Few things capture the essence of a small community as much as a small-town festival. If you are like us, we adore this time of year. Long nights and shorter days change the beautiful landscape around us and remind us of why Mendocino County is the best place to work and play. It also reminds us of the holiday season that is almost upon us and spending time with those closest to us.

This annual event started in 1993 in the old Safeway parking lot. This event has transformed into a large downtown event with vendors, rides and the annual pumpkin weigh-off. There will also be many other events going on (see attached flyer for the schedule of events and link for more details).

Come down and see the hard work people have put in to make this a great event. The parade starts at 10 AM Saturday and runs from the Ukiah Fairgrounds to Mill Street. Be safe, be well and enjoy the pumpkin treats! See you all Saturday!

PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE:

On 01-28-2022 at approximately 12:38 AM there was a report of a Mountain Lion wandering in the roadway in the 5000 block of North State in Calpella.

When a Sheriff's Sergeant arrived shortly after the report, he located the animal walking in the North State Street roadway (see photo in post).

The animal seemed very confused and possibly injured.

It immediately disappeared into the brush along the roadway between North State Street and Highway 101. This was in the immediate area of 5051 North State Street.

The animal was later seen a little north near Central Avenue (Calpella), walking in circles in the roadway causing a semi-truck to have to drive around it.

The California Department of Fish & Wildlife was contacted and they were going to further investigate the situation.

Sheriff's Office personnel are continuing focus patrols of this area in the interest of public safety.

Anyone who witnesses this animal is urged to contact 9-1-1 immediately.
