Fairfax NOVA's newest high school in over 20 years has officially opened its doors and is shaping the next generation of air and space innovators! 🎓
Last week, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) welcomed the inaugural class of Skyview High School, a new comprehensive high school in Herndon offering specialized pathways in aerospace sciences, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and engineering.
Located on a 32.7-acre campus near Washington Dulles International Airport and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, the school’s programs reflect the region’s strengths in aerospace, defense, and emerging technology, and dedication to shaping Northern Virginia’s future.
Students will take a hands-on approach to learning through pod-based groups called “hangars" and modern learning spaces, including a robotics lab and new athletic facilities, including the first full-sized pool at an FCPS high school.
"To build a high school in most parts of Virginia takes generations, and yet here- because we're in a county that is fiscally positioned with a AAA bond rating- we're able to have the opportunity to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime option to buy a beautiful facility like this and to take care of our most important treasure: our kids," said Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Chairman Jeff McKay. "It doesn't happen in most places. It happens in Fairfax County."
