⚠️ CEMETERY WILDLIFE WARNING! 🐝

Please stay away from this section of the cemetery for now!

Apparently, I interrupted a very important meeting of the Cemetery Air Force while mowing this morning. 😂 I’m not sure if they’re ground hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, or just tiny flying demons with anger issues—but whatever they are, they won.

They got me pretty good and made it very clear that this particular section of the cemetery currently belongs to them. 🐝🐝🐝

I’ll try to make it back later this week, locate their headquarters, and begin eviction proceedings.

Until then, please avoid this area unless you can run faster than I can! 😂

I’m asking everyone to please bear with us as we continue working to keep the cemetery maintained. Unfortunately, I will not be able to get back to the cemetery to mow for at least another week.

The two individuals who have been helping with trimming are doing so in their free time, and they are working as much as their schedules allow. I’m very grateful for the time and effort they continue to give.

At this time, the old section and new section have been completed, along with part of the lower Belmont section. We are making progress, but there is still quite a bit of trimming that needs to be done.

If anyone is willing and able to volunteer some time to help with trimming, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. If you need a trimmer, string, and/or gas, please let me know, and I will make arrangements to have the necessary equipment and supplies available for you.

We understand that everyone wants to see the cemetery looking its best, and we do as well. We are simply working with limited help and doing everything we can with the time and resources available.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and especially to those who have given their time to help. It truly is appreciated.

DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE READ!

As many of you know, EastLawn Cemetery operates on a very limited budget. The cemetery's funding comes primarily from donations, along with any remaining funds from cremation burials and grave opening and closing fees.

Unfortunately, due to an error made in 2001 by the previous cemetery association, the cemetery is now required to spend a significant amount of its available funds to correct the issue. Once this matter is resolved, the cemetery will have exhausted the funds that were available beyond our normal operating expenses.

As we move forward, we will be relying on donations to help cover the costs of mowing, trimming, and general grounds maintenance. Any donations received for maintenance will be used solely for mowing and trimming to help keep the cemetery looking its best for the families and loved ones who visit.

Unfortunately, due to an error involving a burial that occurred in 2001, the cemetery must now spend a substantial amount of its available funds to correct the issue.

We want to assure everyone that the donations received this year for mowing and trimming are not being used for this correction. The funds being used are from the cemetery's remaining proceeds from cremation burials and open/close burial fees.

After the next scheduled trimming, the two donations we received for mowing and trimming will be exhausted. We had hoped to delay spraying in order to stretch those funds and continue trimming for as long as possible.

As many of you know, the cemetery no longer has a perpetual care fund, as those funds were depleted between 2015 and 2017. Because of this, we must carefully manage the limited funds that are available to maintain the cemetery.

We ask for your patience and understanding regarding trimming and maintenance schedules. We are doing the best we can with the resources available while continuing to keep the cemetery maintained and respectful for all families.

I would like to personally thank whoever has mowed the new section again. Your help is truly appreciated and does not go unnoticed.

I plan to try to get the remainder of the cemetery mowed later next week. Thank you again for stepping up and helping keep the cemetery looking its best. Your efforts make a real difference and are greatly appreciated by the cemetery and the families who visit it.

The cemetery has now been fully mowed and trimmed. Thank you to Chris Hammond for his hard work trimming around the headstones. Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you notice that some of your freshly planted flowers have disappeared, you can thank the local deer. We want to assure everyone that no flowers were damaged by mowers or trimmers during maintenance.

The cemetery has now been mowed for the first time this season. I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding regarding the delay. Unfortunately, during mowing, my equipment experienced a breakdown and will need to be repaired before the next scheduled mowing.

At this time, I am seeking volunteers who may be willing to assist with trimming around headstones. If volunteer help is not available, I am also open to hiring someone for this work. Trimmer, fuel, and string will be provided.

If you are interested in helping in any capacity, please reach out to me directly. Your support is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in maintaining the cemetery with the care and respect it deserves.

EastLawn Cemetery Notice

We would like to remind all lot owners and visitors of the following important policies:

Cremated remains are not permitted to be placed on grave lots by anyone other than cemetery personnel.

Headstone repairs or maintenance must only be performed by properly insured monument companies.

These policies are in place to ensure the safety of all visitors, volunteers, and workers, as well as to maintain the integrity of the cemetery grounds and monuments.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep EastLawn Cemetery safe, and respectful.

As we approach the upcoming mowing season, we would like to take a moment to share an important update with our community regarding the care of Eastlawn Cemetery.
Eastlawn Cemetery is proudly maintained by volunteers who generously give their time to help preserve and care for the grounds. When funds allow, we do our best to supplement these efforts by hiring additional help, especially during times when maintenance may fall behind.
To help manage the workload and maintain the appearance of the cemetery, we will once again be applying herbicide around headstones this season. This process significantly reduces the need for trimming, which accounts for nearly 90% of the labor involved in upkeep.
We understand that some families may have concerns about this practice. If you prefer that your loved one’s monument not be treated, please feel free to send us a photo of the specific stone(s). We will clearly mark those locations with flags to ensure they are not sprayed.
If you are interested in volunteering, we welcome and greatly appreciate your help. Volunteers are welcome to work any day and at any time that fits their schedule. If you need access to equipment, please give us a call or send us a message, and we will make sure the necessary equipment is available for your use.
We truly appreciate your understanding, support, and continued patience as we work to care for Eastlawn Cemetery with the resources available to us. Our goal is always to maintain a respectful, clean, and well-kept resting place for your loved ones.
