Don’t Wait! Who’s Running for What in 2027?
There is going to be some shuffling at the top offices of Mississippi government in 2027. Tate Reeves and Delbert Hosemann are term limited out. Michael Watson is not running again for Secretary of State although he is not subject to term limits. He has his eye on a higher office but we don’t know which office. Maybe he is waiting to see what former Speaker Phillip Gunn is going to do. He has been making himself available to be seen and heard. Phillip spoke to a crowd of over one hundred here in Tylertown on April 28, 2025. Also wanting to speak to groups at every opportunity is Senator Jeff Tate. He has announced he is running for Secretary of State. And he too came to Tylertown to speak to a group of fourty people on Thursday June 12, 2025. Tate already has Senator Joel Carter running in the same race.
Walthall County Republican Women (WCRW) hosted both Gunn and Tate. They will be hosting the following line up of speakers through April of 2026 and more than one of them will be in the shuffle.
July 10, 2025 - Roger Ginn Supervisor, District 1 and MS Representative Jansen Owen
August 14, 2025 – Mississippi National Guard Adjutant General Bobby M. Ginn Jr
September 11, 2025 - David McRae, MS State Treasurer
October 9, 2025 - US Representative Michael Guest
November 13, 2025 – MS Secretary of State Michael Watson and Bird Martin Supervisor Dist. 4
February 12, 2026 – Mississippi House of Representatives Steve Lott, Dist. 107
March 12, 2026 – 42nd State Auditor of Mississippi Shad White
The hope of Walthall County Republican Women is to help the community be informed and engaged in self-governing and to be a blessing to Walthall County. WCRW were able to raise an impressive $2,500 for tornado relief at their recent Charter Dinner and Silent Auction on April 28, 2025. The newly formed Walthall Strong will be responsible for the distribution of these funds. Mary Jenkinson, the spark that ignited Walthall Strong from a concept to a reality, spoke at the May 8, 2025 Republican Women meeting. Her personal story of how she wanted to help the victims and her journey through legal technicalities, getting help from other counties and getting support and commitments from local leaders, was compelling. On June 12, 2025 members of WCRW voted to entrust the $2,500 to Walthall Strong. Thank you to the WCRW who donated items to the auction, to the Dinner and Silent Auction guests from all over the state of Mississippi and guests from Florida and Louisiana who bid generously, and mostly to God who showed His hand moving through out the ex*****on of the Charter Dinner and Silent Auction.
