Austin Elementary School - Tyler ISD The official Tyler ISD page of Austin Elementary School. The school was named for Thomas Jessie Austin, the principal of Emmett J. Scott School. Mr.

Austin, a scholarly Fisk University graduate, came to Tyler from Brownsville, Tennessee. This tall, quiet educator was strong and courageous in his convictions and emphasized the importance of character, self-respect, and industry to his students. Austin served as a member of the Board of Stewards for St. James CME Church for 20 years and as a Sunday-school teacher for 44 years. He was also presid

ent of the Westview Cemetery Association. At the age of 92 he was presented with the coveted Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America for outstanding service. Austin died in 1959.

Join us for our dress-up days:

👕 Tuesday – Kindness Day: Wear a kindness shirt and give a high five to 10 people!

🎩 Wednesday – Hats Off to Kindness: Wear your favorite hat and show kindness to your teachers by writing them a note!

🏈 Thursday – Team Up for Kindness: Wear your favorite sports jersey and say hello to someone you don’t know!

🐺 Friday – Lobo Pride Day: Wear Lobo colors or an Austin shirt and share a smile with your classmates all day!

We are excited to support the **East Texas Food Bank** through our campus food drive! We are asking our Lobo families to help by sending **non-perishable food items** to school with your child.

📅 **Donations will be collected through Thursday, September 3rd, before noon.**

🏆 **Special Incentive:** The **top 3 classes** that donate the most canned goods will earn the exciting opportunity to **run out onto the field with the Tyler High Lions** during their game against Crandall on **October 16th!**

Week 1 is officially in the books, and our Lobos are OFF TO A GREAT START! 🎉

From building relationships and learning routines to setting goals and making great memories, there are so many amazing things happening on our campus. Our students and staff have shown up ready to learn, grow, and give their best!

The energy is high, the excitement is growing, and we are just getting started! 🚀

🎉 IT’S FINALLY HERE, LOBOS! 💙🖤

Tomorrow is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, and we are so excited to welcome our students back! Our teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for an amazing school year, and we can’t wait to see our Lobos walk through the doors! 🐺

A few important reminders for tomorrow:

⏰ Morning Arrival
Parents are welcome to walk their students to class on the first day. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 a.m. We will begin clearing the campus after the tardy bell, with a goal of having all guests off campus by 8:10 a.m.

🚗 Car Rider Tags
Temporary car rider tags will be provided tomorrow. We will do our best to catch parents during drop-off to provide them. If you need a car tag, please visit the front office.

🍎 Lunch Guests
To help our students get acclimated and comfortable with being back at school, we will not have lunch guests this week. Beginning Monday, August 17, parents and approved guests will once again be welcome to join students for lunch.

🚗 Dismissal
Please be patient with us during dismissal tomorrow. The first few days may take a little longer as we work through procedures and make sure every student gets home safely.

We are so excited to begin a new school year with our students and families! Thank you for your patience, support, and partnership as we get our year off to a great start.

✨ Meet Our Newest Lobo! 💙🖤

Please help us give a warm Lobo welcome to Ashley Dethlefs, better known as Ms. D, our new 2nd Grade Teacher at T.J. Austin Elementary!

Ms. D is a single mom of three, and she and her family are excited to begin their new adventure in Tyler. She believes in a simple motto: "Get the job done, then have fun!"

⭐ A Few of Ms. D's Favorites
🥤 Favorite Drink: Zero Sugar Monsters, water, and an occasional Dirty Dr Pepper
🍿 Favorite Snack: Yoggies, pickle-flavored chips, popcorn, and other tasty treats

💙🧡 Favorite Colors: Blue and Orange
🏐 Favorite Hobbies: Playing volleyball, coloring, and reading

🎓 Education & Background
Ms. D earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Medicine and a minor in Art. She completed her teaching certification through the Texas Teachers Certification Program. After spending the past five years as a coach, she is excited to return to the traditional classroom as she begins her 9th year in education.

🌴 Fun Fact
When she's not at school, you'll likely find Ms. D and her kids playing sports, relaxing at the beach, or enjoying a movie together.

We're excited to have Ms. D join the T.J. Austin family and can't wait to see the positive impact she'll make in our 2nd grade classrooms.
