UT Health EMS is one of the most progressive ambulance providers in the nation. UT Health EMS covers tens of thousands of square miles and serves many East Texas counties, offering the largest rural not-for-profit ambulance service in the state. Staffed by highly skilled and certified EMT, and paramedics, UT Health EMS offers a level of technology and training that’s truly “first in East Texas and

second to none.”

Our ambulances are leading-edge “mobile intensive care units,” that routinely bring the services of a hospital right to the scene of care. Gone are the days when the role of an ambulance was to simply provide fast transportation to a hospital; You can count on a UT Health EMS ground ambulance to begin lifesaving treatment upon arrival.

UT Health East Texas EMS recently received a heartfelt message from a young patient who was in severe pain and feeling overwhelmed. What made the biggest difference that night wasn’t just medical care — it was compassion.

Paramedic Wade Spade and EMT Shaun Mosley helped calm the patient with breathing techniques, reassurance, humor and distraction during the most stressful moments. By the time they reached the hospital, the patient’s fear had turned into laughter and confidence.

This patient shared that Wade was “one of the kindest people I’ve ever met in the medical field” and wanted both crew members recognized for their exceptional care.

We couldn’t agree more. Thank you, Wade and Shaun, for showing what true patient-centered care looks like.

UT Health East Texas EMS loved being part of Bell Elementary’s Career Day! Paramedic Mykal Gomes and EMT James Clark had a great time showing students what it means to Answer the Call as EMS caregivers. From learning when to call 911 to getting a hands-on look at the tools, teamwork and lifesaving skills used in the field, students got an inside look at the world of emergency medical services. We hope we helped spark a little curiosity — and maybe even inspired a few future first responders! Thank you to Bell Elementary for inviting us. Opportunities like this make what we do even more rewarding!

UT Health East Texas team members recently participated in several car seat check-up events across the region, helping families ensure proper child passenger safety. More than 100 car seats were inspected and adjusted, meaning just as many children are now riding more safely on our roads. This is how we care for our communities — one family at a time.

"I wanted to be part of a program that sets a high standard and holds its people to it. UT Health East Texas AIR 1 has a reputation for clinical excellence, strong teamwork and doing things the right way — even when it’s hard. Being surrounded by that kind of culture pushes you to be better every day.

It’s an honor to be part of a program celebrating its 40th anniversary. That represents a lot of lives touched, a lot of hard work and a lot of people who built this program into what it is today. Being a small part of that legacy is something for which I’m extremely grateful."
