On the fourth day of National Law Enforcement Week, we honor and remember Lieutenant John J. Andrews for his dedication, leadership, and service to the Village of Twin Lakes and the law enforcement community.

Lt. Andrews brought decades of experience and professionalism to the Twin Lakes Police Department after serving 25 years with the Milwaukee Police Department, where he worked in patrol, violent crimes, homicide, robbery, and eventually rose to the rank of Detective Lieutenant. In 2010, he joined the Twin Lakes Police Department as a Lieutenant, helping lead and strengthen the department through his commitment to service and mentorship.

On February 19, 2011, Lt. Andrews tragically passed away following a one-vehicle crash in Racine County. His loss was deeply felt throughout Twin Lakes and the greater Wisconsin law enforcement family.

Lt. Andrews will always be remembered for his integrity, compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to protecting others. His legacy continues to live on within the Twin Lakes Police Department and the community he proudly served.

On the third day of National Police Week, we remember Officer Gary R. Hamachek and honor his decades of dedicated service to the Twin Lakes community.

Officer Hamachek served with the Twin Lakes Police Department from 1981 to 2008, dedicating more than 27 years to protecting and serving our village with professionalism, compassion, and pride. He was known not only as an officer, but as a respected member of the community and a friend to many.

Tragically, Officer Hamachek lost his life in September of 2008 following a motorcycle crash in Twin Lakes while off duty. His passing was a tremendous loss to his family, friends, and the law enforcement community he served so faithfully.

Though years have passed, his legacy continues to live on within the halls of our department and in the memories of those who served beside him. We remain grateful for his commitment and the lasting impact he made on Twin Lakes.

Thank you, Officer Hamachek, for serving with honor and valor. You will not be forgotten.

🚲⚡ E-Bikes Can Be Fun — And Safe — When Everyone Knows the Rules ⚡🚲

As the weather gets warmer, we’re seeing more juveniles and families out enjoying bicycles and e-bikes throughout the Village of Twin Lakes. We want riders to have fun while also keeping themselves — and everyone around them — safe.

The Twin Lakes Police Department has been working on education and enforcement related to e-bike safety and village ordinances. Parents play a huge role in helping young riders understand how to ride responsibly.

Here are some important reminders to discuss with your children:

🚦 Know the Rules of the Road

• E-bikes and bicycles must obey stop signs and traffic signals
• Riders should stay in single file when riding in groups and avoid blocking traffic
• Riding recklessly, performing wheelies in traffic, or riding “no hands” can create dangerous situations for riders and drivers alike

🌙 Ride Safely at Night

• A white front light and rear reflector/light are required after dark
• Wear bright or reflective clothing whenever possible

🚫 Unsafe Riding Behaviors

• Do not grab onto moving vehicles
• Do not tow friends or cling to cars
• Earbuds/headphones that impair hearing can be dangerous while riding

🚶 Respect Sidewalks and Pedestrians

Certain downtown sidewalk areas restrict bicycle/e-bike riding.
🚨This includes:
⭐️Downtown Main Street from Burlington Ave to N Lake Ave
⭐️N Lake Ave from Main Street to E Hunt Ave
⭐️ALL of S Lake Ave
Riders should always yield to pedestrians- especially when on sidewalks in allowed areas and use caution in busy areas.

📣 Disorderly or Dangerous Behavior

Aggressive riding, yelling at motorists, throwing objects, damaging property, or disruptive group behavior may result in additional enforcement action beyond traffic or bike ordinances.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents — Talk With Your Kids About:
✅ Wearing helmets
✅ Watching for traffic and pedestrians
✅ Riding predictably and courteously
✅ Staying off phones while riding
✅ Understanding that e-bikes are still subject to laws and ordinances
✅ How one unsafe decision can seriously injure themselves or someone else

📞 When Should You Call Police?
Please contact us if you observe:
• Reckless or dangerous riding in traffic
• Riders grabbing vehicles or causing traffic hazards
• Large disruptive groups blocking roads or businesses
• Property damage or objects being thrown
• Ongoing neighborhood safety concerns involving e-bikes or juveniles

For non-emergency concerns or to report ongoing issues, contact the Twin Lakes Police Department at (262) 877-9056.

If there is an emergency or immediate danger, always call 911.

Our goal is education first, safety always, and enforcement when necessary. We appreciate parents and community members working with us to help keep Twin Lakes safe for everyone this summer. 🚔🚲

Today, during the second day of National Police Week, we honor and remember fallen Twin Lakes Police Department’s Lieutenant Jeffrey Kreft.

On May 25, 2013, Lt. Kreft tragically lost his life in a traffic crash while driving home after completing his shift with TLPD. A vehicle crossed the center line, leaving him with no opportunity to avoid the collision.

Jeff was a respected leader, dedicated officer, loving husband, and proud father to his two young sons. His dedication to the Twin Lakes community and the friendships he built within the department left a lasting impact that continues to be felt today.

During National Police Week, we remember not only the service Jeff gave to this community, but also the person he was to those who knew and loved him. His memory continues to live on through his family, friends, and fellow officers who proudly carry on his legacy.

Please join us in honoring Lt. Kreft and keeping his loved ones in your thoughts today.

This marks the start of National Police Week. This week is meant to remember our fallen brothers and sisters in blue.

Today, we pause to remember and honor Officer Richard “Rick” Thayer — a dedicated member of the Twin Lakes Police Department family whose service, strength, and heart left a lasting impact on our community.

Officer Thayer was sworn in with the Twin Lakes Police Department in February of 2020 after previously serving with the Crossville Police Department in Tennessee. Throughout his career, Rick was known for his compassion, resilience, and commitment to helping others, even while courageously battling metastatic melanoma.

Yesterday marked the two-year anniversary of Rick’s passing on May 10, 2024.

During National Police Week, we remember not only the badge he wore, but the husband, friend, and officer behind it. His dedication to public service and the people of Twin Lakes will never be forgotten.

Please join us in keeping Officer Thayer’s family, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts as we honor his memory and his sacrifice.

End of Watch: May 10, 2024

This past weekend’s Color Run was nothing short of amazing! 🌈🏃‍♂️

We want to extend a huge congratulations to all of the participants who came out, brought the energy, and made the event such a success. It was great to see our community come together for such a fun and positive day.

A special shoutout goes to our very own Officer Cassandra Mireles, who participated on her own time and ran the course in full uniform, an incredible display of dedication and community spirit! 💙

We’d also like to recognize the officers who helped make the event possible behind the scenes and along the route, setting up the course to ensure safety and assisting participants across busier roadways. Your work helped keep everyone safe and the event running smoothly.

Lastly, a big thank you to the Chamber for putting together such a fantastic and well-organized event.

We’re proud to be part of a community that shows up like this!
