This page was developed to provide an online source for preserve "friends" and visitors to share photos and current information about Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve. Open major holidays, except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. When you arrive, sign in is required at the visitor support station and sign out as you leave. The preserve is a 713-acre scenic natural area situated around a complex

of small sandstone canyons in the upper portion of the Cane Creek watershed of the Tennessee River basin. The area has rugged topography that includes a number of waterfalls, creek cascades, boulder fields, and rock shelters. Miles of marked and maintained hiking trails lead hikers to scenic canyon overlooks, rich wildflower areas, creek access points, pioneer cabin sites, and other natural, cultural and archeological features. The hiking trail that descends to the main Cane Creek Canyon has approximately 350 feet of elevation change from ridge top to creek level. It is listed as "moderate" in difficulty. Original owners and caretakers Jim and Faye Lacefield purchased 40 acres of land in 1979 and gradually expanded property over the years. Wanting to share this special place with others, the Lacefields created trails and offered public access. In February 2023, they donated the property to the Land Trust of North Alabama to ensure the land is properly and permanently cared for while also allowing continued low impact public access. If you are interested in supporting the continued maintenance and protection of this special piece of North Alabama, please make a donation at landtrustnal.org/cane-creek-preserve.
