The Alberta School of Performing Arts (TASPA) is a part of the Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) and offers K-8 students a curriculum placing the visual and performing arts at the center of student learning. The school embraces a trans-disciplinary model of education with a focus on developing creativity and critical thinking skills. At the Alberta School of Performing Arts, the arts serve as a tool in constructing the academic, artistic, and social growth of students. In addition to meeting standards of the TCS curriculum, TASPA students in the primary grads K-3 receive regular exposure to a variety of art forms including dance, theatre, visual art and music. Students attending TASPA in the intermediate grades 4 and 5 begin to focus on a particular art form as they expand their creative abilities. Middle school students in grades 6-8 experience a deep immersion in their fine arts specialties in addition to a rigorous, arts-infused core curriculum.

PART 2 of the recap!

Our Core Values Pep Rally was all about celebrating what it means to be a TASPA STAR!

Students brought the energy and HOUSE SPIRIT as they participated in games, cheered on their classmates, and celebrated students who have been demonstrating our STAR Core Values:

⭐ S– Service
⭐ T– Teamwork
⭐ A– Accountability
⭐ R– Respect

Our core values are more than words. They represent how we want our students to learn, lead, treat others, and contribute to our school community each day.

We loved having the opportunity to recognize students who are already putting these values into action while reminding everyone that EVERY student has what it takes to be a TASPA STAR!🌟

Our students are learning that service is more than giving your time. It is about recognizing a need, taking action, working together, and understanding how our efforts can make a difference for others.

The Royal Premier Chapter of NJHS kicked off its September Day of Service with 26 middle school students putting those lessons into action! Students volunteered at Central High’s JV & Middle School Volleyball Tournament, helping wherever they were needed, before heading to Oak Hill School to help pack books that will be sent to students in Ghana.

Through experiences like these, our students are developing leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and a greater understanding of what it means to serve both their local and global communities.

This is what service learning looks like: learning through service, reflecting on our impact, and discovering that even young people have the power to make a difference.

And at TASPA, service is especially meaningful because it reflects one of our STAR Core Values: SERVICE!

This year, we introduced our revamped STAR Core Values, giving new meaning to what it means to be a TASPA STAR! Throughout August, our students learned what it looks like to demonstrate Service, Teamwork, Accountability, and Respect each day.

We are excited to recognize our August STAR Students who have already begun leading the way! These students were selected for demonstrating our core values through their actions, choices, and interactions with others.

We also celebrated our August Faculty of the Month! Our faculty and staff play an important role in modeling these same values and creating a school community where our students can learn, grow, and shine.

Congratulations to all of our August honorees! Thank you for showing us what it means to be a TASPA STAR! ✨

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Wear green every Thursday to help us raise awareness about the importance of regular school attendance!

Regular attendance gives students more opportunities to learn, connect with classmates and teachers, stay on track academically, and experience all that school has to offer. Families play an important role in building strong attendance habits and helping students understand the value of showing up every day.

Let’s make attendance a priority and work together to help every student make the most of every school day!

Check out all of our students who had perfect attendance for August!

Huge shoutout to our National Junior Honor Society students for volunteering their time to help blow up balloons for our Balloon Pop Relay last week!

Our students had a blast while raising money for a great cause! All proceeds from the event will be donated to United Way.

We truly appreciate everyone who participated and played a part in making the event fun and successful. Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community!

On Friday, students will have the opportunity to purchase popsicles for $1. These proceeds will also be donated to United Way.
