Sometimes, you don’t realize how special a place is until you get to experience it from both sides.

For Toniko Bryant, it started with finding after-school care she could trust for her daughter, Prycelyn. After starting at the Boys & Girls Club of West Alabama, Prycelyn quickly fell in love with the Club, even calling it “Boys & Girls Club Church” and asking to come on Saturdays and Sundays!

Toniko loved knowing her daughter was safe, happy, getting her homework done, and making memories while she was at work. So when an opportunity came to join the Club family herself, she took it.

As a YDP, Toniko got to see firsthand what makes the Club so special: the hugs, the dances, the report cards proudly pulled out of backpacks, and the Club Kids running to greet their favorite staff.

She quickly realized that being a YDP is about so much more than a job title.

“We are aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, big sisters, big brothers, teachers, counselors, and so much more. But most of all, we are the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama.”

👋 Meet Our Staff Monday!

Meet our NEW Hasson Center Director, Isaac Harris! 💙

For Isaac, serving young people has always been more than a job — it’s a calling. With experience in education, student success, mentoring and leadership development, he is passionate about helping young people discover their potential and achieve their goals.

A graduate of Stillman College 🎓, Isaac has dedicated his career to supporting students and families through academic advising, coaching, recruitment and student success initiatives. Throughout his professional journey, he has helped young people build confidence, navigate challenges and prepare for bright futures.

At the Hasson Center, Isaac is committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where members can learn, grow and thrive. 🌟 His goal is to build a culture of excellence, accountability, respect and fun while encouraging every Club member to dream big, work hard and believe in themselves.

His vision for our members is simple: to help develop confident leaders, responsible citizens and successful adults who will one day give back to their communities and inspire the next generation. 💫

Outside of work, Isaac enjoys spending time with family and friends, serving in ministry, mentoring young adults, supporting HBCUs and making a positive impact in the community.

❤️🐘 Crimson Kickoff at the Club!🐘❤️

What a FUN day at Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama! Our Crimson Kickoff was filled with great food, big smiles, laughter, and memories that our Club kids will carry with them.

A special thank you to Big AL for bringing the Crimson spirit and excitement to the Club! We’re also incredibly grateful to all of our vendors and community partners who helped make today possible.

And to our amazing Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama staff, thank you! From grilling and baking to serving and making sure every detail was taken care of, you showed once again what it means to go above and beyond for our kids. 💙

Today was a celebration, but we know that kind of dedication happens not just today, but every single day.

We enjoyed showing off our growing Club, sharing stories from our staff and Club members, reflecting on our impact over the last 65 years, and sharing our exciting vision for the future. 🌟

Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama is proud to be one of 30 United Way of West Alabama partner agencies providing critical services to children and teens across West Alabama. UWWA is an important partner in our work, helping make safe spaces, caring mentors, and meaningful opportunities possible for young people throughout our community. 💚

Back-to-school is in full swing here at BGCWA, and our Club Kids are already putting their creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills to work!

From our K–1st graders building windmills, roller coasters, and 3D shapes to our 4th–5th graders stepping into the roles of architects and engineers, our Club Kids are designing, building, exploring, and learning together. These hands-on challenges are showing them that big ideas can come in all shapes and sizes, and that great ideas are even better when we communicate, collaborate, and work as a team!

We love seeing our future engineers and architects learn by doing at the Clubs!

Last week, Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama was honored to be a recipient at the annual Nick’s Kids Foundation Giveaway Luncheon. Our Chief Development Officer attended with her daughter and had the opportunity to experience firsthand the generosity, heart and community spirit that make this day so special. 🎒✨

Great things happen when organizations come together. 💙

Thanks to United Way of West Alabama, AT&T and Compudopt, 56 Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama families received laptops and backpacks to help them begin the school year with greater access to learning, opportunity and connection.

These are more than laptops. They are tools for completing homework, building technology skills, searching for jobs, staying connected with schools and pursuing a brighter future.

As one parent shared:

“This gift is more than just a computer. It is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build a better future.”

We are also grateful to Alabama State Senator Gerald Allen for joining us and encouraging families to help young people use technology safely, responsibly and confidently.
