💜June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month🎗️

Under the Protecting Alabama’s Elders Act 𝑪𝒐𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒂𝒎𝒂 §13𝑨-6-190 elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation are criminal offenses.

Elder abuse is not always visible. It goes beyond physical harm and can include emotional abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.

Know the signs:
• Physical abuse, such as hitting, pushing, or causing injury
• Emotional or psychological abuse, including threats, intimidation, or isolation
• Financial exploitation, such as fraud, coercion, or misuse of funds

What you can do:
• Check in on older family members, friends, and neighbors
• Listen and take concerns seriously
• Report suspected abuse or neglect
• Help older adults stay connected and supported

Elder abuse is often a silent issue, but awareness can make a difference. If you see something, say something.

Missing Person Monday
As a part of our new Missing Person Monday that we started recently, we are going back through open missing persons cases and resharing them.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating Janet Denise Hamner, who has been missing since August 12, 2018.

Last seen:
Moe’s Travel Plaza along Highway 82 West near the Pickens County line. It has been years since Janet Denise Hamner was last seen, and investigators still need answers. Someone may remember something that could help bring closure.

“A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.”

To some, he’s the Sheriff, Deputy, Detention Deputy, Dispatcher, or Analyst, a proud member of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

But to others, he’s Dad, Grandpa, Daddy, or Pappy.

Behind every badge is a man whose most important role begins when the uniform comes off. As an agency, we recognize that making it home safely to the people we love is what matters most.

Today, we celebrate the fathers who serve our community while also being role models, providers, and heroes to their families.

Happy Father’s Day!

Sheriff Abernathy and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office were proud to join fellow community partners in celebrating America’s upcoming 250th birthday at the Synergic Center in Northport, AL.

The public was invited to experience and honor America’s history while highlighting Tuscaloosa County’s role in it. Organized by local leaders through the Tuscaloosa County 250 Committee, the celebration marked the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

As part of the celebration, a Princeton Elm "Liberty Tree” from the Alabama 250 Committee was dedicated on the grounds of the Synergic Center. The tree will serve as a lasting symbol of freedom and unity.

We were honored to be part of this historic milestone and look forward to continuing to celebrate our nation’s legacy.

🍪 Thank you to the Girl Scouts for delivering a bountiful supply of cookies to our office.

Intern Kassandra Dewoody’s sister, Christine Holman, along with their Troop Leader, Taylor Perry, made sure we were fully stocked. We truly appreciate Troop 29541 for the thoughtful treat.

We do have one question? When will these thin mints start making us thinner?
