🎻 Unlocking Creativity Through Music! 🎶

The Tuscaloosa City Schools strings program gives students the opportunity to unlock their creativity, develop their musical talents and showcase their abilities for a variety of audiences.

High school strings teacher Dr. Joe Ortiguera has studied and taught strings across the country. He believes studying music can help students think more critically and creatively while developing skills that can translate into problem-solving and other areas of life.

The TCS strings program is one of only a few of its kind in Alabama, and Dr. Joe has a big goal: to make it the best. 🎻✨

Congratulations Jefferson! Central High School

We are incredibly proud to announce that Jefferson Morris has been named a Semifinalist in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program! Join us in celebrating this outstanding academic achievement.

Over 1.3 million juniors nationwide entered the competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, and these students represent less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors.

He now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for thousands of National Merit Scholarships to be awarded next spring. We are so proud of your hard work, dedication, and leadership.

Yesterday, in recognition of World Su***de Prevention Day, Northridge High School hosted a Mental Health Fair to connect students with resources and support.

Seventeen community partners participated, sharing information about mental health, su***de prevention and wellness.

The message for our students was simple but important: You are not alone, and help is available.

Region play resumes this week in TCS high school football action. In perhaps its biggest game in recent memory, the Central High School Football will travel down U.S. 69 South to face the sixth-ranked team in Class 5A, the Hillcrest Patriots. Both teams enter the contest at 3–0.

Central is coming off a 49-24 win over the Brookwood Panthers. The Falcons flew out to a 49-17 halftime lead behind a big-play offense. Jarvis Woods hauled in three Armani White passes for 146 yards and two scores. Tra’Von Hall combined for 161 total yards and a touchdown on just 10 touches. Anthony Dixon touched the football twice and turned those opportunities into 83 rushing yards and two TDs. The Central defense surrendered its most points of the young season but is giving up just 10 points a game.

After a two-year stint in the toughest region in the state, the Patriots are back in a familiar region and looking to make a statement. Last Friday’s 63-7 win over Hueytown is one such statement. The Pats are averaging 56 points a game while giving up just nine.

Hillcrest beat Central in 2023 by a score of 49-14. The Falcons are 3–5 all-time against the Patriots.

The Paul W. Bryant "Football" Stampede Nation enter this week’s home contest against the battered Hueytown Golden Gophers with a 1–2 record. The much-improved Stampede offense is averaging 311 yards of total offense per game. They are scoring 24 points a game and have eclipsed their largest single-game scoring output from the 2025 season in all three contests this season.

The usually strong Gophers have struggled under a new coach and enter the contest at 0–3. Hueytown averages around 12 points a game on offense, while the defense gives up 56. The Gophers have made the playoffs every year since 2016 and have had early-season struggles in the past. Bryant’s lone win over Hueytown came in 2005, and their 42-7 loss last season was their 14th in the series.

The 1–2 Northridge Jag Football lost a heartbreaker last Friday night to the McAdory Yellow Jackets by a score of 41-37. The Jaguars totaled 543 yards of offense, led by quarterback Max Bruinton’s 360 passing yards. He and receiver Demeriyan Cotton connected for three touchdowns through the air, and Cotton also rushed for a fourth. Tate Espey caught four passes for 117 yards. Julian Crenshaw led the way on the ground with 107 yards and a score. The Jags’ defense gave up 476 yards of total offense but forced several turnovers.

This week, Northridge will seek to even its record at 2–2 when the Jaguars meet the 1–1 Brookwood Panthers on the road. The Panthers displayed an impressive offensive attack last Friday against the Falcons and were tied at 14 at one point in the first half.

Northridge is undefeated in 14 games against the Panthers, including a 37-7 win in 2025.

On Sept. 11, 2020, the Paul W. Bryant Stampede lost to McAdory 18-8. On Sept. 11, 2009, the Northridge Jaguars slipped by Minor 26-24. The Central Falcons beat Ensley 31-0 on Sept. 11, 1998.

🍎🔬 Future Teachers Get a Look at the Future of Learning! 🚀

Students in the Education & Training class at the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy are preparing for careers as teachers, and they recently had the opportunity to take an inside look at The Saban Center and learn how this innovative STEM center will enhance educational opportunities throughout our region and state. 🌎💡

When The Saban Center opens next year, it will serve as a valuable learning lab for these future educators — not only as college students who can take advantage of its programs and resources, but one day as teachers who can bring their own students to explore, discover and learn. 🎓👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

Experiences like this help future educators see firsthand how learning can extend beyond the traditional classroom and inspire students to explore their passions, discover new interests and connect education to future careers. ✨📚

The Tuscaloosa City Schools is proposing a $201 million budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, with approximately $122 million dedicated to instruction and instructional support.

The proposed budget reflects several years of careful financial planning while continuing to invest in classrooms, programs and services that support TCS students.

The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education is set to vote on the proposed budget tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa City Schools Central Office.
