**Update: Monday, June 1, 4:21 p.m. - severe weather threat has passed. Shelters are now closed.**

Storm shelters in Tuscaloosa are now open (Monday, Jun 1, 3:00 p.m.) at the following locations:

- McDonald Hughes Center, 3101 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd (Pet Friendly)
- Alberta School of Performing Arts, 2700 University Blvd E

Residents planning to use the shelters, please bring any snacks, water, medication, etc. that you may need while you are sheltered. For questions, please call Tuscaloosa 311.

On Monday, June 1, construction will begin on Phase III of the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard/Jack Warner Parkway Improvements Project. Phase III will upgrade and expand the span of the railroad bridge to improve vehicle traffic beneath the rail line crossings of Jack Warner Parkway.

Beginning June 8:

- Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed from just north of 6th Street to Jack Warner Parkway near the Nicks Kids Avenue intersection.
- The Western Riverwalk connector beneath the trestle bridge will be closed. Western Riverwalk access will be available on the West end of the trail by Oliver Lock and Dam.
- Parking in the trestle lot will not be available, including for Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater shows.

Storm shelters in Tuscaloosa will open at noon today (Monday, May 25) at the following locations:

- McDonald Hughes Center, 3101 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd (pet friendly)
- Alberta School of Performing Arts, 2700 University Blvd E

Today, May 22, is International Building Safety Day. We're proud to recognize the dedicated professionals on our City of Tuscaloosa team who work hard to build a stronger and safer community for us!

In 2025:

⭐️ Over 3,000 permits were issued
⭐️ Almost 19,000 permit inspections were conducted

This is just some of what our Building and Inspections Division accomplishes and we are so grateful for their hard work!
