Tuscaloosa County Conservation District Working to conserve our natural resources so future generations can enjoy Tuscaloosa County 🌳 Join us to Conserve Alabama!

For nearly 80 years, Tuscaloosa County Conservation District has committed to conserving Tuscaloosa County's natural resources by connecting those who use and work the land to the education, technical know-how, and resources they need. This stewardship revived the landscape from the devastation of the 1930's and continues to improve the quality of life for all Alabama citizens. The Tuscaloosa Coun

ty Conservation District is part of a statewide movement in the conservation of Alabama's natural resources: Conserve Alabama. Conserve Alabama is an initiative of the State of Alabama Soil & Water Conservation Committee to re-energize and unite stakeholders in the effort to be good stewards of our land and water. With a growing population and increased demand in the 21st Century, it's more important than ever that we use our resources wisely.

Today we planted a few more seeds of ag literacy 🌱📚

The Tuscaloosa County Soil & Water Conservation District visited three more elementary schools- Crestmont Elementary School, Westwood Elementary, and Buhl Elementary School- to donate Ag Learning Stations.

Each school received 24 ag-accurate books, a bookshelf, and a rolling tote bag. These books help students explore where their food and clothes come from while learning about pollination, farming, the water cycle, soil health, and more. 🐝🌾💧🌍

We’re excited that all 18 county elementary schools are receiving an Ag Learning Station this year after launching the project in city schools last year!

Thank you to the Alabama Soil and Water Conservation Committee for making this project possible!

We had a great time touring the TCSS K-12 AG Farm yesterday! Thank you so much for having us and showing us around. It’s exciting to see all the growth happening and the new additions to the farm.

From the goats, sheep, and donkey to the fishing pond, sunflower field, pollinator garden, and all the plants... there was so much to take in!

We can’t wait to see what’s next!

Tuscaloosa County SWCD Board Advisor Chad Christian recently joined a two-day Emerging Leaders in Conservation (ELC) session in Montgomery.

The 12-member cohort- made up of Soil & Water supervisors, district employees, and advisors- is building the skills and connections to protect our land and water for future generations.

Highlights included touring the State House, meeting legislators, and sitting in on the 2026 legislative session.

Chad also met with Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, who grew up in Tuscaloosa and previously served as a Soil & Water Conservation District Board Supervisor in Pike County.

We’re excited to host the ELC group in Tuscaloosa this summer for their final session.
