✨ STAFF SPOTLIGHT: RACHEL ✨

If you’ve spent time at our Downtown YMCA, chances are you’ve met Rachel at the front desk!

Rachel is one of those people you can always count on. Whether she’s helping a member solve a problem, welcoming our senior members, or keeping our youngest members smiling, she brings the same kindness and care to everyone who walks through our doors.

She has a natural ability to connect with people, and it’s easy to see why she’s loved by both our members and her coworkers. If there’s a problem, Rachel is usually ready to help find a solution!

Originally from Enterprise, AL, Rachel moved to Tuscaloosa in 2024 and is currently majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS).

And a fun fact about Rachel? She speaks Japanese!

We’re grateful to have Rachel helping make the Downtown Y feel like home. 💙

💙 Thank you, Riley.

After nearly five years at the YMCA of Tuscaloosa, Riley is beginning a new chapter, and we’re going to miss her dearly.

Riley started at the Y in September 2021 as a part-time Wellness Coach before becoming Membership Director in January 2022 and eventually Operations Director. Along the way, she supported our membership and wellness teams, personal trained, taught several classes, and even started one of her favorites, Hybrid Fitness, in April 2022.

But Riley’s greatest impact can’t be measured by titles or responsibilities. It’s in the relationships she built with our members every single day.

For Riley, one of the greatest joys of working at the Y was watching members overcome challenges and reach goals they once thought were out of reach. For so many of our members, especially our seniors, Riley became much more than a familiar face at the Y. She became someone they looked forward to seeing, trusted, and cared deeply about.

The feeling is certainly mutual. 💙

Riley, thank you for the energy, encouragement, laughter, and genuine care you brought to the Y. You have made a lasting impact on this community, and the Y will always be a part of your story.

We’ll miss you, Riley!

110 floors. One day. We remember.

Join us today for a special 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who climbed toward danger to help others.

Challenge yourself to climb 110 floors at your own pace. Use the Stair Climber, StepMill, or stairs, take breaks when needed, and scale the challenge to 22, 44, 55, or all 110 floors.

Complete it individually or with your Y community.

Today, we remember. We honor. We never forget.

They may be living with Parkinson’s, but Parkinson’s is only one part of their story. 💙

Our Parkinson’s clients have spent decades building careers, raising families, serving their communities, and making an impact. Before they were the people we know at the Y today, they were teachers, business owners, professionals, caregivers, leaders, and so much more.

We loved getting to know a little more about the lives and careers behind the faces we see every week.

Meet Max Karrh, our Board President!

What does the YMCA mean to the people who help lead it?

For Max, serving the YMCA is about believing in the people, programs, and opportunities that make our community stronger.

In this video, Max shares why he said yes to serving on the board, what makes him proud of the Y, and why he believes investing in the YMCA means investing in our community.

We’re grateful for leaders like Max who give their time, energy, and voice to the Y.

🎥 Take a few minutes to hear Max’s Y story!
