Yesterday we conducted a live burn training in "downtown" Tuppers Plains! The environmental conditions proved to be perfect to carry out the task with the utmost safety in mind. The rain greatly reduced the water needed to apply on the structure as well as controlling volume and spread of fire activity. Weather conditions were very favorable in helping reduce smoke exposure to the neighborhood. Firefighters focused on exposure protection, water management, hose techniques, and scene safety.

We would like to thank the Francis family for allowing us the opportunity to conduct this burn. The homeowners approached the department due to safety concerns regarding degradation and deterioration of the structure. This opportunity provided a means to proactivley mitigate a potential hazard and allow firefighters to work on vital skills.

We are very appreciative of our brothers and sisters at Bashan Vfd and Olive Township Volunteer Fire Department for joining us. Thank you for all your help and as always, it is wonderful to work with our neighboring departments!

Last Sunday Tuppers Plains FD hosted an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course. Five departments from three different counties and two states were in attendance! We are very grateful to our insurance company Williamson/Utica Insurance for offering this class to us for free! They also provided every student with a t-shirt. We would also like to thank our instructor Jerry Green for an informative and fun class. We are so thankful for the departments that sent members to gain knowledge and become safer responders. Thank you to Bashan Vfd, Coolville Volunteer Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, and Vienna Fire Department. It was great working with you!

Areas affected...northern Kentucky into eastern Ohio and western
Pennsylvania

Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

Valid 181638Z - 181915Z

Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent

SUMMARY...Storms may strengthen through the afternoon with potential
for strong to severe winds and some instances of hail.

DISCUSSION...Remnant shower activity is ongoing across portions of
the Ohio Valley from northern Kentucky into central Ohio. Ahead of
this activity, temperatures are warming into the upper 70s to 80s
amid broken mid-level cloud cover with increasing cumulus observed
in visible satellite. Dew points are largely in the mid to upper
50s, with a better plume of 60s dew points across northern Kentucky.
The cold front remains further west, extending from northern
Arkansas into central Indiana/northwestern Ohio.

Guidance suggests that some strengthening of activity along the
leading edge of the shower activity may be possible into the
afternoon. Though MLCAPE remains marginal, with around 250 J/kg
ahead of the ongoing activity in northern Kentucky, steep low to
mid-level lapse rates (7-8 degrees C/km), and strong deep layer
shear (around 40-50 kts) may support a few more organized storms to
develop. Should that occur, strong to severe winds and marginally
severe hail may be possible. Confidence in the exact evolution of
thunderstorm activity remains low but trends will be monitored.
