Lee County Supervisors Take a "Strike" at High Fire Insurance Rates

In 2025, the Lee County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to establish fire "Strike Teams" to complement and supplement the work of the volunteer fire departments in Lee County. Each weekday, two two-man teams of professional firefighters man modern equipment from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the most critical time for volunteers to respond. Positioned at Saltillo and Verona, they work north and south of I-22, respectively, responding to any emergency, including municipal calls. Supervisor President Barry Parker praised the work of the Strike Teams, already credited with saving homes and protecting lives. A significant result of adding the Strike Teams is a reduction in fire insurance rates in additional parts of Lee County.
