Help rain soak into the soil instead of rushing directly to the storm drains that empty into and pollute of local streams, lakes, and rivers. Redirect your roof downspouts so rain can run into your yard or garden instead of paved surfaces. Flexible downspout extensions are available at many hardware stores, so don't wait to make this quick fix!

Stormwater is rain that falls on roofs or paved areas like driveways and roads. This water is carried away by a system of pipes, ditches, and drains. It soon reaches our streams and rivers. You can help prevent stormwater pollution by taking steps to stop detergents, paints, leaves, cigarette butts and other litter from ending up in our waterways

Cleaning Your Car: If you wash your car in the street or on your driveway, soaps, mud, oil, and grease can wash directly into the stormwater system. Many soaps contain phosphates which over-fertilize waterways and can lead to a build up of toxic algae which is harmful to fish and humans too. How Can We Help? Try to wash your vehicle on a grassy area or over gravel; use as little soap as possible; check for fluid leaks and maintain you car.

Stormwater runoff is the water that flows off of hard, impermeable surfaces (like roofs, sidewalks, and pavement) when it rains. This water picks up pollutants before it flows into stormdrains that then take the untreated water and dumps it directly into streams, rivers, and lakes.
