TFD responded today to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Capitol Blvd near Linwood Ave. The injured patient was rapidly treated by our crews and flown to Harborview Medical Center with our partners at Airlift NW. Thanks to our daily staffing levels, we were able to manage this incident while one of engines was on a structure fire with Griffin Fire Department.

In honor of EMS Week, we started a new tradition. Whenever someone saves a life, we tack a save pin into the wood of this ancient Medic 5 backboard displayed in the apparatus bay. Someday, there won't be any room left, and we'll have to find a new artifact!

Tumwater Fire crews responded to a structure fire at noon today on Lake Park Drive. Four people were safely out of the home when crews arrived. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, and damage was contained to the kitchen. Pets were also safe.

A good reminder: working smoke detectors and a clear escape plan make all the difference in an emergency - seconds count.

Tumwater's Engine T1 extinguished a car fire on Interstate 5 last night. The driver was safe and all her belongings were salvaged.

Vehicle fires can grow quickly and create serious hazards from heat, smoke, leaking fuel, and traffic disruptions.

Our crews train for fast, coordinated response to protect people and property, control the fire, and keep the scene as safe as possible.

If you ever experience a vehicle fire, follow these steps:
🔥Pull over safely and move away from the vehicle.
🔥Call 911.
🔥Do not try to retrieve belongings.
🔥Stay clear of smoke and traffic.
🔥Follow instructions from emergency responders.

A car can be replaced. You can't.

In recognition that emergency medical services are a vital public service that provides lifesaving and supportive care to the people of Tumwater 24-hours a day, seven days a week, Mayor Dahlhoff and council proclaimed May 17-23 as Emergency Medical Services Week in the City of Tumwater. Members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills. May 17-23, 2026 is a time to recognize those who give so much of themselves and consistently rise to the challenge for the safety and health of others.
