This is the kind of driving behavior that kills entire families.

Earlier tonight, one of our deputies observed a driver cross over a double yellow and pass numerous cars at speeds over 80mph on Old Pacific Hwy around a sweeping blind corner.

The deputy stopped the driver, who was obviously impaired. The driver provided a PBT of 0.223, nearly three times the legal limit. The driver was arrested for DUI.

Getting drunk and passing cars at high speeds in no pass zones is extremely dangerous and selfish behavior that poses unsuspecting oncoming drivers at extreme risk of life altering injuries and death.

I can say without any doubt that this deputy saved numerous lives tonight. Excellent work!

This is as far back as the family tree currently runs on my father’s side of the family.

My father Tom Sanders Jr. served as a Corrections Deputy before working his way up to an executive role in Nuclear Security.

My grandfather Tom Sanders Sr. served in the military and was awarded the valor service coin later in life for his heroic efforts assisting two police officers in a fight for their life.

My great grandfather Ulysses Sanders was a southern sharecropper. History tells us what came before that.

The next generation of our family tree is broken and fractured as a result of dehumanizing slavery, though technology may one day help us continue building out our ancestral roots. It is challenging to connect the dots of your ancestry when they were stripped of all their rights and legal names in exchange for iron brands to remind them of their status as property.

Happy Juneteenth to everyone, but a special shout out to those whose family trees are decimated as a result of the enslavement of others.

As Dr. Thelma Jackson so eloquently put it, β€œwe came over on different boats… but we’re all in the same boat now.”

I look forward to celebrating with you at ASHHO CULTURAL COMMUNITY CENTER tonight πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Tonight, one of our deputies attempted to stop an unlicensed motorcycle on Martin Way. The rider attempted to elude by fleeing down a side walk, nearly crashing into a pedestrian. The deputy terminated the pursuit, then went around the block and was able to apprehend the rider.

The rider was an unlicensed 15 year old juvenile, who was placed under arrest for attempting to elude. The motorcycle was impounded.

A few points to be made about the influx of gas/electric powered bikes on our public roads:

β€’ Parents, I know that you think your kid is β€œmature for their age”, but when you’re not around, they’re definitely doing wheelies in the middle of busy intersections and riding recklessly down the sidewalks where pedestrians have an expectation of safety.
β€’ You must have a driver’s license + motorcycle endorsement to ride a motorcycle on a public roadway. There are no exceptions, and learner permits aren’t even close to counting.
β€’ Your motorcycle must be equipment compliant on public roads: license plates, turn signals, brake lights, headlights, etc.

Dense urban roadways are not safe for your unlicensed child, who doesn’t comprehend the importance of traffic laws, to rip around on at their leisure. Allowing them to do so is going to get your child seriously hurt or killed.

The bikes are cool, but your child making it to their 18th birthday alive and healthy is way cooler.

In 2023, TCSO Corrections Deputy Kenny Anderson passed away during his third battle with cancer.

Last night, Deputy Anderson’s son Logan graduated high school and our Corrections team made a plan to cheer him on.

Deputy Anderson’s family, friends, and co-workers miss him deeply, and we know that he is proud of the young man Logan has become.

Congratulations to Logan and all of our 2026 graduates πŸŽ“
