This morning, Cleburne County was placed under a BURN BAN.
Unfortunately, departments across the county, in conjunction with Arkansas Forestry Commission, have fought multiple fires this weekend, throughout today, and are still working to contain things in another district tonight.
Please remember some important information:
- We are in a state of DROUGHT! It would take many inches of rain to resolve this.
- Just because a little grass is green on top of the ground here and there, doesn't mean that the ground fuel under it isn't prime for burning (dead leaves, twigs, pine needles, etc are still very much dry and ready at a moment's notice to catch and spread like a firey carpet under the green)
- The trees are also not fully "greened up" and very dry, making them easier fuel right now
- Just because you "believe" you can wrangle or contain anything you create on your own property, you cannot control the wind, the humidity, or the conditions on anyone else's...and when that fire endangers others, it can become a crime.

Please, for the love of your neighbors, the love of your volunteers, and the love of your own property, please exercise extreme caution. No burning, no flames, no outdoor sparks, no tossing cigarette butts.

There may still be outages in our area as of 11:50, hopefully resolved soon!

Please be patient with our hardworking linemen as they are out in this weather trying to get over 2,000 outages resolved.
♧Also, if you don't currently have the First Electric App, it is great for reporting outages, viewing outage maps, and often seeing potential restoration updates

🌞Hey y'all ~ While we don't exactly have the crazy gusty conditions from last weekend, they are burning in the Calico/Norfork/Sylamore areas again so the north end of our county could observe some smoke.
- We are still under a burn ban in our county and any open flames here could still pose serious risk.
Have a safe weekend in this beautiful sunshine!

Prescribed fire reduces hazardous fuels, improves forest health, and supports habitat for native wildlife. Applying low-intensity fire under the right conditions also helps lower the risk of severe wildfires in the future.

Risk levels are determined by fuel conditions, drought status, and long-term weather forecasts. They are categorized by how easily fires can start and how hard they are to contain. The risk level definitions are:

Hey Folks!!
We know the smoke is concerning, but as of 4:20 p.m., nothing near us or in our district is actively on fire. The National Forestry Service is currently conducting prescribed burns in the Sylamore Management Area today, as well as other parts of the state. This combined with significant winds and extra gusts has carried thick smoke and haze to Drasco, Ida, Tumbling Shoals - down Dry Mtn, all the way to Wilburn.
Departments have been paged and were out looking until we were made aware of activity outside of our county. We know it's a little unnerving, but hopefully that's all the excitement we have for today!
