đź’ˇ TPS Spotlight đź’ˇ

Last week, representatives from Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) met with the Council to discuss recent successes, areas of growth and their plans for the voter-approved bond package.

At the meeting, Zachary Daniels, a Senior at McLain High School for Science & Technology, discussed his experience in Career Academy. He participated in the Manufacturing & Production Technician Program, where he received all four certifications, and served as an intern at a local company. As a result of Career Academy, Zach graduated with 12 college credits and will be working full-time at the company where he interned.

With the new bond package, TPS plans to enhance:
• Instructional materials
• STEM investments across K-12
• Arts and Athletics investments at every high school
• Driver’s Education
• Career Academies

Welcome to Tulsa!

On Tuesday, Councilors attended the lighting ceremony for one of two new welcome signs for the west and east sides.

The West Tulsa sign, located at the Route 66 Village, welcomes visitors to Tulsa near Yukon Avenue and Southwest Boulevard, just south of Interstate 244. The East Tulsa sign is being installed near the Interstate 44 and Interstate 244 split, east of 129th East Avenue. The structures stand at approximately 42 feet tall with sides rising at a 66-degree angle.

The project was funded through the voter-approved 2016 Vision Tulsa package, which dedicated $11 million for beautification, tourism and economic development efforts along Route 66 and citywide. Of that funding, approximately $3.7 million was designated for signage. It was a collaborative effort between the Tulsa City Council, Tulsa Planning Office and Public Works Department. A City Council working group helped advance this vision for a coordinated gateway signage program across the city.

🚨 An UPDATE on Safe Move Tulsa and homelessness outreach efforts. 🚨

Councilors Anthony Archie and Christian Bengel joined Mayor Nichols to announce the City is nearing the halfway point of its first-year goal of housing 300 individuals from encampments through the Safe Move Tulsa Initiative. Three additional encampments and 23 more individuals experiencing homelessness have found housing through the program.

Since its launch in late 2025, Safe Move Tulsa has housed a total of 134 people, cleaned more than 100 tons of trash and debris from City properties, and decommissioned and maintained the closure of nine encampments.

📞 “Someone to call.” 📞

It's the first service needed to support someone enduring a mental health crisis. And last week, Councilors joined other City leaders to announce one year since mental health clinicians from Family & Children’s Services began operating 24/7 inside Tulsa’s 911 Center.

In the past twelve months, this partnership has:
• Diverted more than 6,600 calls away from police, fire and EMSA
• Saved an estimated $450,000 in public safety resources
• Reduced mental health-related dispatches from 11,379 in 2024 to 5,477 in 2025
