Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa

Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa Delivering food and friendship to the homebound TOGETHER, WE CAN DELIVER.

Our mission is to provide nutritious meals, wellness checks, and caring contact to elderly, disabled homebound, and others in Tulsa and surrounding areas. A MISSION THAT DELIVERS
Providing the support our seniors need to extend their independence and health as they age. For many seniors in our community, Meals on Wheels is the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate

to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, wellness check, and caring contact help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation, and loss of independence. A SOLUTION THAT WORKS
Your compassion and generosity fuel the most effective solution to senior isolation and hunger in Oklahoma.

> 26% of Oklahoma seniors are threatened by hunger.

> 90% of recipients say Meals on Wheels improves their health and makes them feel more secure.

> 36% drop in hospital stay rates after only 30 days of Meals on Wheels service.

> A senior can receive one year of Meals on Wheels service for roughly the same price as a one-night stay in a hospital.

Thank you to Jody, our volunteer who comes in for a few hours once a month to prepare birthday and condolence cards for our clients. She has been putting in this valuable time for two years, and our clients certainly appreciate it as much as we do!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of volunteer Tony Winefield. Tony was honored at our Volunteer Appreciation event in April with an award we lovingly refer to as the "Tony'll Do It!" Award because he was involved in the most volunteer programs and was always willing and available whenever we needed help. But Tony's care for others extended beyond Meals for Wheels, as he also gave his time as a docent at The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art, the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, and devoted more than 30 years to education as a history, government and journalism teacher. It was a privilege to know Tony; his impact was far reaching and unmistakable, and his presence will be deeply missed at our office. He will be remembered with great fondness.

May is Mental Health Month, and at Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa, we believe older adults belong in the conversation.

For some older adults, isolation can mean days without a familiar face, a friendly conversation, or someone checking in to make sure they’re okay. Over time, that lack of connection can affect mental and physical health, increasing the risk of depression, anxiety, heart disease, and stroke. The U.S. Surgeon General has compared its impact to smoking up to 15 ci******es a day.

That’s why connection is woven into the way we serve. For older folks, feeling seen, supported, and remembered can make a meaningful difference in their mental well-being. A simple check-in can make a real difference, not just during Mental Health Month, but all year long. Volunteer with us and make a real difference in someone's life: www.mowtulsa.org
