Resident Spotlight 🌟
📍Pioneer Plaza
Fred, Tulsa native and Pioneer Plaza resident, has been playing guitar since the 90s, but for him, music has always been something much deeper than the instrument itself. It has served as a way to both express himself and, most importantly to him, connect with others.
His love for the instrument began by chance, when his sister was cleaning out her closet, found an old guitar she no longer had use for, and gifted it to him. 🎸
This was the beginning of his passion for playing the guitar, but Fred had already spent decades learning multiple instruments — the first being cello in elementary school, then piano, trumpet, and trombone. Many of these were self-taught.
Fred quickly got to work practicing guitar, and eventually learned 816 Baptist hymns. He turned this talent into service for others, standing outside John 3:16 regularly to play music and provide encouragement and solace to those coming in and out of the building. Many would join in and sing the hymns as he played, one popular song being “When the Saints Go Marching In.” He brought this same routine to a local Dollar Tree as well. 🎶
It has been decades since Fred has used his talent to connect with and encourage others in this way, but Fred’s passion for music and connection has not gone away. He still plays his guitar every single day, learning notes to new songs. He is currently learning the Book of Psalms and occasionally enjoys sitting in the common spaces on the ground floor of Pioneer Plaza, connecting with fellow residents in the building.
We’re so grateful to have residents like Fred who bring a passionate spirit to our community and share our dedication to bettering the lives of those around them! ⭐️
