It's been a year since we have been able to visit places due to the pandemic and purchasing our first home! First we want to thank all of our new followers! Welcome to a little history and a little spooky combined!

This summer we went back to our favorite town Eureka Springs, Arkansas! We visited The Crescent Hotel, but this time got to go inside the Basin Hotel all the way to the top where the haunted ballroom is! Let's take a dive into what makes this hotel so great, and paranormal.

In 1881, The Perry House was built by a man named Captain Joseph Perry. Perry was very ill and sought out the healing waters in the ozarks. After some time, he decided to make his stay permanent and open one of his many hotels in Eureka Springs. Unfortunately, Perry made the mistake of building the hotel out of wood and one kitchen fire burned the building to the ground in 1890.
From there, the Basin Hotel Park started construction in 1904 and finished in 1905, led by a man named William Duncan. The beautiful hotel was built from limestone rock, with iron stairs around the building as extra precautions. It has 100 guest rooms, each equipped with a steam heater and telephone, as well as elevators to reach the floors, which at the time was considered much more upscale. It is even unique that every floor is ground level as it was built into the side of a mountain.
In 1940, Joe Parkhill purchased the hotel. Over the next 15 years, Parkhill hosted gambling nights and sold illegal alcohol to many people coming to town. He was most famous for creating the Barefoot Ball, that held many dances and live events that kept the building alive. It's even documented that Al Capones sister stayed at the hotel for over a month. In 1955 he was arrested and forced to close down and sell the hotel.
The hotel was again purchased in 1980s and remodeled, and then again in 1992 to the current owners. They opened a rooftop restaurant and bar named "The Balcony" and the hotel has been thriving since for its history and beautiful views over Eureka.
Unlike The Crescent, the Basin doesn't have any recorded deaths at the hotel, but the history and town have seemed to pull the energy into, it making it the 2nd most haunted hotel in Eureka! Former owner Joe Parkhill brought his wife with him to town and was described as having long blonde hair and dark blue eyes. Visitors have reported spotting a woman wandering the hotel who matches the description. Some say she has a soft smile, while some paranormal investigators have said she looks deeply unhappy. Over the years, guests have reported seeing a little girl and orbs, as well as EVPs being captured of many different voices. The most haunted location of the hotel is reportedly the Barefoot Ball, which is believed to still contain residual energy of those who came through to dance, gamble and drink before us!

If you ever get a chance to go through this scenic town, make sure and stop by this historic building!

The A.O.T.P. crew visited the famous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado known for its rich history and hauntings, as well as being the inspiration for the bestselling novel The Shining by Stephen King.

The hotel was built in 1909 as a summer resort for wealthy travelers by Freelan Oscar Stanley. F.O. Stanley was an American entrepreneur who contracted Tuberculosis in 1903 and was given only 6 months to live. He was told to move somewhere with lots of sunlight and fresh air to help but was told he wouldn't live through the summer. Naturally, Stanley and his wife moved to the Rocky Mountains. Within months, he was healthy and cured and swore to return and make Estes Park a resort town. In 1907, the determined man began building the hotel and was one of the first hotels with electricity throughout the entire hotel, even with phones in every room. This amazed travelers passing through and the hotel began to thrive.
As time passed, the Stanley Hotel started to hit a downward spiral due to lack of investment and care into the building and was in the works of being knocked down by wrecking ball. In the fall of 1974, a book author by the name Stephen King and his wife decided to stay a night in the hotel before the hotel closed down. His experiences were so intense, it inspired him to write his 3rd major novel and became one of his bestselling books along with a movie filmed in the hotel itself called The Shining. This revamped the hotel and brought even more attraction preventing the hotel from closing its doors for good.
The hotel, unlike others, does not have a dark past leading to its haunting. In the 1920s, a gas leak exploded in room 217, leaving the chambermaid Elizabeth Wilson injured with 2 broken ankles and burns. She recovered and resumed her work until she was 90. Shortly after passing, hotel guests reported spotting a woman dressed as a chambermaid hovering through closed doors and disrupting couples sleep by wedging them apart as if almost displeased they are sleeping together unmarried. Single men have reported their things being packed and left in front of their room. The hauntings of young children have been reported as well though there have been no records of any passing in the hotel. Some say the spirits haunting the hotel are those who cherished and fell in love with the spot and returned making it their forever home. People have claimed seeing animals that aren't there as well. Over the years, paranormal activities have been reported by guests in almost every single room making it one of the top haunted hotels in America. And last but not least, Freelon Oscar Stanley and his wife Flora have been reported to haunt their very own hotel. Stanley built the concert hall in the hotel as a gift to Flora, and many guests have reported seeing her in there playing with the keys on the piano. Guests have also reported Stanley himself walking the halls.

A.O.T.P. visited the 1886 Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The hotel is known for its rich history and high paranormal activity.

The hotel started out in 1886 as a resort for the rich and famous and was at one point by invitation only. It was built in the Ozarks and known for its healing waters. It wasn't able to generate enough income, and shortly after became a College and Conservatory for Young Women in 1908. The college only operated for 16 years before closing down for another 6 and then reopening in 1930 to 1934.
In 1937, a gentleman by the name Norman Baker, a radio broadcaster, bought the hotel and opened it up as a cancer hospital and resort. Norman claimed that patients would come to his resort ill, and leave cancer free. People came from all over the country for his cure. The cure consisted of blended watermelon seeds and other ingredients injected straight into the sight of the cancer multiple times a day. This ultimately lead to many people dying as this did not, in fact, cure cancer. The patients that regressed and got more sick were sent to another portion of the building to keep them quiet from moaning and screaming in pain so the other patients could enjoy the "resort" side of the hospital. Norman was arrested for fraud and it was learned that he had no credentials to be a doctor, let alone, run a hospital doing these practices. The place was ran completely illegally and people fell subject to this mad mans experiments.
The hotel opened and closed over the course of the next years as a hotel until 1967, when a fire took out most of the 4th floor. The hotel was on the brink of demolition when a couple saw the potential and history of the hotel and decided to restore and reopen it.
Over the years of remodeling and reopening, they soon learned the dark and rich history of the hotel came with some guests who never checked out.
The hotel is now famous for their paranormal tours and was named one of the most haunted hotels in America. The spirits are very active and keep the quests and visitors busy. With poltergeist and residual activity, the hotel is definitely one place the A.O.T.P team had to go and experience!
