The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Secures $650,000 National Park Service Grant for Historic Property Restoration

TULSA, OK — The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $650,000 grant from the National Park Service (NPS). This vital funding will directly support critical structural repairs and architectural preservation across all ten historic commercial buildings along Historic Black Wall Street.

Extreme local weather conditions—including intense summer droughts and severe water intrusion—have caused significant deterioration to these landmark structures. To ensure their long-term structural integrity and aesthetic vitality, comprehensive restoration work will target key exterior and interior infrastructure.

Scope of Work Includes:

Masonry & Brickwork: Emergency repairs and stabilization to address severe weather-related structural damage.

Building Facades: Full replacement of storefront windows and commercial exterior doors.

Interior & Exterior Architectural Features: Complete interior stucco replacement, storefront entryway tile repair, and targeted limestone restoration across all ten historic properties.

Timeline:

Construction is scheduled to commence later this month in September 2026, with an estimated project timeline of 8 to 10 months.

This historic investment reflects the Greenwood Chamber’s unwavering commitment to preserving the physical heritage and economic future of the Historic Greenwood District. We extend our deepest gratitude to our supporters, community partners, and the National Park Service for making this landmark project possible.
