What a blast on the water today!
Had an awesome time training with the members of Kansas Task Force 5. It’s always better when students show up ready to learn, full of excitement, and with great attitudes — and this group brought it.
We got a ton of skills completed and the foundation is solid. Next up… Swiftwater. Let’s go!
Proud of everyone who put in the work today.

Day 1 in the books!
Today we officially kicked off another Swiftwater Ops & Boat Ops class with our neighbors to the north.The morning and early afternoon were spent in the classroom digging into the PowerPoint and covering the foundational knowledge. This afternoon we transitioned outside and got after some solid hands-on skills work.
Tomorrow we hit the water for Day 2. Looking forward to a great day on the water tomorrow.

Mid America Water Rescue – Day 2/3 Complete!
Hot one out there today, but nothing beats being on the water. Static water day is in the books!
Students showed up ready to work and put in a full, fast-paced day packing in a ton of skills. Great effort all around.
Tomorrow they get their feet wet with an introduction to swift water.
Stay tuned… more to come.

Day 1 of 3 in the books!
Great start with our students from Owasso Fire Department in the Swiftwater Boat Operations class with Mid America Water Rescue.
Today was all about the classroom, PowerPoint, and hands-on boat maintenance. Solid work getting the knowledge and systems dialed in.
Tomorrow we rev the engines and lay the foundation.

We don’t usually make posts like this… but this week hit different.
First I saw a video of a young guy who didn’t get hired by an out-of-state fire department. You could see it in his face — that heavy, quiet disappointment and not where to go next. The next day I’m in the barber’s chair and my barber starts telling me about their son. Kid’s been grinding took all the classes. Got his EMT. Still can’t get hired. And he’s starting to get really discouraged.
I get it. This job isn’t easy to break into. Rejection stings. Waiting sucks. Watching other people get the call while you’re still waiting hurts even more.
But here’s the truth:
If you quit… you’ll never get it.
Stay the course.
Find a mentor.
Talk to people who’ve already made it.
Work harder than the person next to you.
Build your resume one class, one certification, one volunteer shift at a time.
And never quit on the dream.
I can promise you this — a whole lot of us who finally made it are willing to help. We’ve been where you are. We remember what it felt like. Reach out. Ask questions. Practice your interview skills.Keep showing up.
The ones who make it aren’t always the most talented. They’re the ones who refused to quit.
Keep going.
