Soft skills are what help opportunities stick.

Communication, reliability, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability are the qualities employers keep noticing, and they matter long after the interview ends. Through workforce readiness and mentoring, we help participants strengthen these life skills so they can open doors to brighter futures and build lasting change.

Take your first step with us and discover how these skills can create new beginnings. ✨

One opportunity can change everything.

A job interview. A mentor. A safe place to live. Sometimes one open door becomes the turning point, and at 1st Step, we help young men turn that opportunity into lasting change.

Together, we’re building brighter futures, one first step at a time.

September is Recovery Month.

Treatment works, and recovery is possible. At 1st Step Male Diversion, we see that truth in the daily commitment young men make to build stability through housing, clinical care, mentoring, and a path forward beyond incarceration.

Together, we celebrate perseverance, new beginnings, and the work that creates brighter futures and lasting change. ✨

A new chapter starts with structure, support, and the decision to keep moving forward.

For young men ages 18–30 in Oklahoma, that support can look like stable housing, mentoring, clinical care, routine UAs, employment preparation, transportation, and the everyday resources that build accountability and character growth.

At the William Kellough Residential Treatment Center in Tulsa, we provide a 24/7 pro-social environment that helps emerging adults rebuild with purpose. Stand with us as we help young men write what comes next.

Research says people can change.

For young men ages 18 to 30 who are at risk of incarceration, that change is not built on wishful thinking. It is built through structure, accountability, healthy routines, and community support.

At 1st Step, we create the conditions for rehabilitation with supervised transitional housing, mentoring, clinical care, employment preparation, transportation, routine UAs, and daily living support. Follow the link in the 1st comment to explore how rehabilitation creates stronger futures.

Hope alone is not enough.

Lasting change takes accountability, opportunity, and consistent support, and that is the work we do every day at 1st Step Male Diversion. We walk alongside young men with real tools, real structure, and a habilitation-first approach that helps them rebuild with purpose.

A fresh start is built one decision at a time.

For young men working to change the direction of their lives, that can look like choosing stability, asking for support, and staying committed when the process is hard. We see that work every day through housing stability, mentoring, clinical care, transportation, employment preparation, and the daily structure that helps change last.

If someone in your life is working toward a new path, encourage him today. Your support can help him keep moving forward.

International Youth Day puts one truth in front of us: better outcomes for young men require better conditions.

For the Oklahoma young men we serve, that starts with safe housing, mentorship, clinical support, transportation, employment preparation, and daily accountability. When those pieces are in place, second chances become more than a slogan. They become structure, stability, and a real path away from incarceration.

Now is the moment to invest in what works.

Research shows stable employment is one of the strongest predictors of successful community reintegration.

For the young men we serve, a job is more than a paycheck. It builds confidence, routine, responsibility, and independence. Through supervised transitional housing, mentoring, clinical care, transportation, daily living support, and employment preparation at the William Kellough Residential Treatment Center in Tulsa, we help Oklahoma young men ages 18–30 build the structure that supports desistance and a stronger place in the community.

Encouraging because each job earned opens doors. Sobering because too many young men still need that opportunity. Share our mission and help more young men take that next step.
