Fireworks may be a celebration for us, but for our pets they can be frightening and disorienting. More animals go missing around the Fourth of July than any other time of year. A few simple steps can make a big difference:

🏠 Keep pets indoors. The single best thing you can do is bring pets inside before the booms begin. A closed, comfortable room muffles the noise and keeps them from bolting.
🔊 Drown out the noise. Turn on a TV, fan, or some music to soften the sound of fireworks.
🛏️ Create a safe space. Set up a cozy spot with their bed, a favorite toy, and a familiar blanket where they can ride it out.
🪪 Check ID tags and microchips. If a scared pet does get loose, current tags and chip info are the fastest way to bring them home.
🚪 Secure doors and gates. Anxious pets can slip out fast, so double-check that everything is latched.
😌 Stay calm yourself. Pets take cues from us. A steady, reassuring presence helps them feel safe.

Extensive time and effort are paying off as this severely deteriorated home is being demolished to make way for new housing.

Removing dangerous structures and replacing them with new housing stock creates a safer community and adds to the tax base. This in turn helps to curb the requirement for property tax increases.

On behalf of the Shady Grove Garden Club, the City of Tullahoma and South Jackson Performing Arts Center cordially invite you to join us on Friday, May 22nd at 11am for our annual Memorial Day Observance event.

This event is free to attend and open to the public. Our featured speaker will be Brigadier General J. Bart Burton, US Army (retired), and Col Grant Mizell, Commander, AEDC will dedicate our new engraved pavers. Patriotic music will be provided by Dr. Hope Koehler. Also, the Garden Club will recognize their 2026 scholarship recipients, and the City of Tullahoma will officially dedicate the new foot bridge at History Park as the "1LT Thomas Gwynn Veterans Bridge."

Note - venue change: Due to predicted weather, this event will be held at SJPAC instead of outdoors at History Park.

This home gained national attention when a devastating tragedy occurred during the holiday season. That tragedy alerted this office to the dangerous and unsanitary conditions that were present. Through use of the code enforcement process, this property is being restored to a clean and safe residential lot.

We hope this brings closure to the family and our community. Appreciation to the Tullahoma Police Department and Tullahoma Animal Shelter for all their assistance.

Our department would like to extend sincere gratitude to Tullahoma Animal Shelter Staff Cheryl Rhodes and Reagan Lacy for their assistance with an unfit structure investigation. Through their compassionate and patient efforts, we were able to rescue nine dogs from exceptionally unsanitary conditions.

A large portion of the public is unaware of the activities necessary to keep all of our residents safe. Our office coordinates investigations with all city departments and outside agencies to better serve our community.
