🚨Statement from Interim Chief Lund🚨

As the region prepares to welcome members of the international community for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, I want to speak briefly on the hard work and dedication that the men and women of the Tukwila Police Department have put in over the past year in anticipation of these events. Preparation for events of this magnitude requires countless hours of planning, training and coordination with our public safety partners.

Over the past year, members of our department have been engaging in extensive planning, training and collaboration with our public safety partners to ensure the safety and security of our community and those attending viewing events and other FIFA World Cup events throughout the City of Tukwila over the next month. This training includes crowd management techniques, traffic control drills, mass transit security training, active shooter response drills, trauma medicine, public safety and incident command communication exercises and other large-scale crowd and critical incident-based training. The commitment demonstrated by our officers to all this planning and training over the past year is a reflection of their professionalism and their commitment to our public safety efforts to keep our Tukwila community and visitors to our city safe.

While the FIFA World Cup will bring unprecedented attention and activity to our region, our primary mission remains unchanged: protecting the people who live in, work in and visit Tukwila. As we are one of the few law enforcement agencies in the region that is at near fully deployable staffing levels, our officers will still be responding to 911 calls for service during these upcoming events, investigating crimes and proactively patrolling residential and business areas throughout the city to deter crime.

We encourage everyone to enjoy the many events that the City of Tukwila has setup for the FIFA World Cup over the next month.

This past Saturday, our Tukwila PD golf team consisting of Commander Valdez, Officer Hernandez, Detective Madriaga and Officer Masters participated in the first ever Battle of the Badges golf tournament hosted by Kent PD at the Riverbend Golf Course. The charity golf tournament raised funds for the BlueBridge Alliance. BlueBridge provides officers with cards that are funded by donations to purchase necessities, temporary housing and other basic items for those in crisis, victims of domestic violence, victims of crimes and others who need assistance.

Our officers have extensively utilized this program since we began the partnership with BlueBridge Alliance several years ago. Many individuals and families have been helped by these donations and subsequent contacts with our officers and it is a program that has proven to be valuable to the community we serve.

Detectives & Officers Investigating Illegal Discharges in Allentown

Over the past several months, Tukwila officers have been dispatched to numerous illegal discharge calls in the Allentown and Ryan Hill areas. While no property or persons have specifically been targeted during these illegal discharges, several of the rounds have come down in the Allentown area and damaged property as a result. The illegal discharges tend to occur between the hours of 10pm and 4am.

As a result of these regular occurrences, a Special Emphasis Unit (SEU) detective has been assigned to the case and is working with our crime analyst and patrol division to stop the illegal discharges and work to identify the suspect(s). We take these incidents seriously and as such, the shell casings collected at the scenes are being submitted to the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) for examination and are also being submitted for fingerprint examination as well.

🚨 Ryan Hill Incidents
Responding officers have located large amounts of shell casing on multiple occasions in the 4900 blk S 114th St. Based on evidence collected thus far, the firearm used in these incidents is fully automatic.

🚨 Allentown Incidents
On multiple occasions, an individual has been observed firing a handgun into the Duwamish River in the 4000 blk S 115th St. These occurrences are usually happening at random hours overnight and with less frequency than the above mentioned incidents in Skyway.

📞 Anyone with information, surveillance footage or tips related to either of these cases is encouraged to contact us. Please send us a private message on social media, e-mail us at [email protected] or call our non-emergency line (206)-241-2121 and ask to speak with an officer regarding these incidents.

Some recent arrests of note. We also had quite a few DUI arrests lately which continues the trend of proactive work being by our Nights A and Nights B patrol squads to remove intoxicated drivers from the roadways. There have been several fatal collisions in our region lately in which impairment was suspected and or cited as the cause. A DUI related fatal collision is a very avoidable death that should never have occurred in the first place. It alters many lives in an instant and the families and loved ones of those lost never truly recover from such a sudden and unexpected loss. Don't get behind the wheel if you've been drinking or using other substances.

As you go about your Memorial Day weekend, please take a moment to remember the men and women that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. They have come from all walks of life and have given their lives in wars and conflicts all over the world. They represent men and women of all races, sexes and socioeconomic backgrounds. We also honor their families who have had to endure the pain of losing a loved one and having an empty seat at the table for the rest of their lives.

In addition to these men and women that we remember and honor this weekend, we ask that you also remember the thousands more that never really returned home from these wars and conflicts that have also paid the ultimate sacrifice as a result of the horrors of war. These men and women return waging a silent war each and every day that often goes unnoticed until it is too late. PTSD.
