🚨🚨 UPDATE-Interstate 40 is open 🚨🚨

I-40 east bound at MM 332 is closed due to a motor vehicle crash

Today, one of our Quay County Sheriff’s Deputies was involved in a rear-end collision while on Interstate 40.

Our deputy was struck from behind while slowing down during a routine patrol on Interstate 40, with emergency lights activated. We are thankful to report that our deputy, as well as the occupants of the other vehicle, were evaluated and no major injuries were reported.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved, and we wish each of them a full and speedy recovery.

This incident serves as an important reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day while serving our community. Interstate 40 is one of the busiest highways in the country, and our deputies routinely patrol this corridor, respond to crashes, assist stranded motorists, and handle emergencies while surrounded by high-speed traffic. Even during a routine patrol, the unexpected can happen in an instant.

We ask all motorists to stay alert, avoid distractions, maintain a safe following distance, slow down, and move over whenever you see emergency vehicles or law enforcement operating on or near the roadway. A few extra seconds of caution can save lives.

Please keep everyone involved in today’s crash in your thoughts. We also extend our appreciation to the first responders who quickly arrived on scene and assisted with the incident.
