In 1970, a hot fudge sundae at the drugstore soda fountain was not a tiny little treat.

It came in a tall glass dish.

Big scoops of ice cream.

A heavy pour of hot fudge.

Whipped cream.

Nuts.

And that bright red cherry on top.

A sundae like that could be around 35¢.

Today, a similar dessert can be $7.99 or more—and the cup is usually a lot smaller than the old glass dishes were.

It was the kind of treat you ordered after school, on a Saturday downtown, or after church with the family.

Who remembers getting a real hot fudge sundae at the soda fountain?
