At Valley Hospital Outpatient, we’re committed to helping patients build the skills, confidence, and support they need not only during treatment, but as they prepare for what comes next.

As part of that commitment, Valley Hospital Outpatient is proud to partner with Beacon Group to connect patients with valuable vocational and employment resources. Through group presentations and referrals, patients can learn about GED and certification programs, job skills and coaching, résumé support, computer skills, benefits assistance, and Ticket to Work resources.

Our outpatient programs provide a supportive environment where patients can focus on their mental health while also building toward greater independence, employment, and success after graduation. We’re proud to connect patients with community resources that help turn those goals into their next steps. Thank you Beacon Group for your partnership!

Congratulations to our WOLVES of the Month, Junior “JT” Tenorio!

JT comes to work prepared every day and is always ready to participate in his chosen groups. He takes time to look over our biweekly calendar and chooses his groups ahead of time, showing great planning and initiative. He is open to trying new tasks, outings, volunteer opportunities, and jobs whenever they are available. He has a positive attitude and is friendly with staff and peers, often making jokes and laughing with others. JT communicates his needs to the best of his ability and is patient when others are communicating with him. He follows directions well, takes initiative, and is always eager to help others. He stays focused on his tasks and works hard to complete them. He is also pleasant and respectful in the community and represents the WOLVES program positively wherever he goes.

Congratulations, JT! We are proud of the positivity, hard work, and effort you bring to WOLVES every day. Keep up the great work!

We are very sad to share the passing of a former Beacon member, Lonnie Shepherd.

You may remember, in 2021, we celebrated Lonnie's success in earning his General Equivalency Diploma through Beacon's customized high school equivalency classes while pursuing his dream of becoming a writer. His determination, dedication, and positive energy inspired those around him and left a lasting impression on our team.

We are grateful to have been a small part of his journey and extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

We are excited to announce that Beacon Group was recently selected as a 2026 Ability Transcends Challenges (ATC) Award recipient by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). This award is given to an organization that demonstrates a true commitment to disability inclusion and employment.

PBATS developed the ATC program in 2014 to bring national awareness about people with disabilities, promoting community and employment inclusion by using examples from baseball. The program started giving awards in 2024, and began partnering with the National Down Syndrome Society in 2025 to honor organizations in MLB cities. In 2026, PBATS completed that vision by presenting the ATC award to one organization in all 30 Major League Baseball cities, including Beacon Group in Phoenix!

We are so proud to accept this award as it aligns perfectly with our mission of creating opportunities for people with disabilities and we hope it will inspire other businesses and organizations to do the same! Thank you to PBATS and the National Down Syndrome Society for this honor!

We had a great time hosting the Local First Arizona Tucson Business Mixer last week! It was fun connecting with business owners in our community and showing everyone what Beacon is all about! Plus, we discussed ways we can partner together and job opportunities for the people with disabilities who we serve.
