TFD’s Engine 12 crew responded to a motor vehicle accident at 9:30 this morning near South Sycamore Creek Place and E Cumaro Canyon Way.

The crash involved one vehicle that went through a wall, trapping the driver inside.

Crews extricated the patient, who was transported to a local hospital.

Tucson Fire was called to a commercial fire at 3:44 this morning at Friedman Recycling at 1825 West Price Street.

Multiple callers reported flames and smoke in the area.

Engine 8 arrived five minutes later and reported large piles of garbage on fire. The piles were against a building, but sprinklers kept the flames from spreading to the structure. A front-loader was used to move around the piles so crews could get water on them.

The fire was called under control at 5:29.

Fifteen units responded. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Tucson Fire was honored to host Senator Mark Kelly this afternoon at Fire Central.

Senator Kelly is working to secure $1.3 million in funding for TFD’s Peak Volume Truck (PVT) and medic trucks in FY 2027.

The Senator met with TFD Fire Chief Sharon McDonough, Regina Romero, and fire personnel for a discussion about the department’s TC-3 team, Peak Volume Trucks, our medic program, and the Safe City Initiative.

Station 1 crews gave Senator Kelly a tour of their living quarters and the bay, showing off our trucks. The Senator even went up in the ladder truck, that’s 105 feet!

Two members of the Tucson Fire Department’s Wildland Team are in Oregon, part of Arizona Task Force 7707, supporting operations on the McCully Fire. A member from Rio Rico Fire District and Corona De Tucson Fire District have also joined the Tucson team.

The task force is made up of wildland resources from across Arizona, including Tucson Fire Department’s Brush 22 Type 3 engine.

The crew is supporting the Prineville Hotshots with back burning, holding and structure support, structure triage, plumbing water supply, and patrolling for hotspots.

The crew left Tucson on August 21 and helped at the Mitchell Springs Fire for a few days before arriving at the McCully Fire last Friday. They will finish out their two-week deployment in Oregon.

Tucson Fire was dispatched to a commercial fire at 9:08 this morning at 15 West Grant Road, where multiple callers reported smoke coming from the old Speedway Gas Station.

Engine 5 arrived four minutes later and reported heavy smoke conditions. Crews made entry to the building and confirmed no one was inside, while other crews made their way to the roof. All crews were called down and outside when the fire burned through the roof, and they fought the fire defensively from the outside.

A second alarm was called at 9:33. Twenty-two units responded to the incident.

The fire was called under control at 11:15. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
