This is Petrie* A892175.

Most 80s babies will tell you that the “Land Before Time” series was a childhood staple, leaving us crying each time we watched the movie and the main character, Littlefoot, loses his family. Little Foot would eventually make his way back to them, making a group of friends along the way, including trusty Petrie. Petrie is a gentle, kindhearted, flying dinosaur who gains courage and confidence from his friends. Unlike the Petrie from the movie, our Petrie needs no help in the confidence department! This friendly, goofy baby loves, loves, loves people! Volunteers love him too, with one sharing:

“I love Petrie! This tall, gangly boy is really just a big baby. He's friendly and eager to go outside, and in the play yard is SO affectionate. He spends most of his time leaning on me, soaking up all the pets he can get, and even giving kisses. Petrie is a sweet and curious boy who I think will bond quickly with his forever person.”

Petrie would like to meet any potential furry roommates before heading home to ensure a good fit. In “The land Before Time”, the Great Valley is an idyllic, lush environment where the animals live in peace and safety. Our Petrie is dreaming of his very own picture perfect home, complete with a family who will love him furever and adore him for always. Come meet this sweet boy today!

👉️ We need fosters!

Our shelter is seeing litter after litter of kittens and puppies, so we need folks who are ready to bottle feed and help kittens learn hot to become baby cats. 🐱

Kittens not your thing? We need people who can take on a medium to large dog because we have several in need of a break from the stressful shelter. 🐕

Stop by the shelter any time and take a peek! We have hundreds and hundreds of pets who would love to meet you. ❤️

Now is the time to start planning for your pet if they get scared by the festivities involved with the Fourth of July.🎆

Here is your checklist:
🐾 Make sure your pets collar is in good condition with an updated phone number. If you need one, come to PACC and get one in the Central Pet store. It's FREE to all pet owners in Pima County.
🐶 Inspect all fences and gates for possible holes and locks that don't catch properly. In a pinch, a carabiner can act as a lock for a gate to keep a pet from escaping!
🐱 Make a plan for your pet. Keep them in a quiet, calm part of the house, away from guests. Include special items like blankets, toys, and treats that your pet loves.
🐾 If your pet ends up lost, check PACC in person and the lost and found online (multiple times a day).

People always ask us, how can we help with PACC's overcrowding? The answer - Help stray pets find their homes 🏠💙

If you find a stray dog who appears friendly and healthy, please keep them in their neighborhood and try to find their owner BEFORE bringing them to the animal shelter! Walk the dog around the neighborhood and ask folks you see. We know from analysis of PACC data that around 60% of lost dogs in Pima County are found LESS THAN A MILE from their home!

Many times, people are already out in the neighborhood looking for their pet, and picking them up and taking them to the shelter actually makes it LESS likely they will be reunited with their owners 😿

Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) has confiscated more than 100 animals from a residence southwest of Tucson where they spent their lives inside small wire crates with minimal access to food and water.

Officers from PACC’s Animal Protection Services division seized dozens of small breeds, like pugs and yorkies, along with a few larger livestock-guardian breeds, three cats, and one Patagonian mara, a rabbit-like rodent native to Argentina. The owners surrendered the animals, so they will be available for adoption as soon as they have been medically cleared by PACC’s clinical staff.

Memorial Day weekend marked the beginning of PACC’s busiest season, with a noticeable increase in the number of stray dogs being brought to the facility. The busy season hits the highest point around the Fourth of July, so PACC is urging pet owners to start preparing their homes for potential escapes by evaluating gates and fences and making quiet, relaxing plans for their pets when the fireworks begin to boom. 🎆

How to help PACC
🐾 Get a free tag: Pet owners can get a tag for their pet’s collar any time the shelter is open from the Central Pet store in the adoption lobby. The free tags are also available at Friends Pet Clinic, 2661 N. 1st Ave. These tags are for any pet owner in Pima County, not just PACC adopters.
🐕 Foster: PACC is in need of fosters for medium to large dogs. People who are interested in fostering can sign up online or visit the shelter in person.
🥰 Adopt: Adopting a large dog saves the life of that dog and the dog that will move into its space.
💵 Donate: Donations to Friends of Pima Animal Care Center help fund more outreach events where free vaccines can be distributed.

Even though you can walk into some stores in Tucson and buy a tie-out, please know it’s not legal 🙅‍♀️ for pet owners to put their dogs on tie-outs here in Pima County.

It’s a misdemeanor crime. If caught, you could pay some hefty fines or face up to 6 months in jail. 🚔
