Leo Garcia Venegas is an American citizen. He frames houses in Baldwin County, Alabama. Since the spring of 2025 he has been detained three times by federal agents — twice at job sites they entered without a warrant, once in his own driveway after they followed him home. Each time he held out an Alabama REAL ID. Each time it wasn't enough.
Here is the part that should stop you: at a hearing this year, a Homeland Security official testified that agents do not treat REAL ID as reliable proof that someone is legally present. DHS administers the REAL ID program. The government spent years telling Americans to go get one.
A federal judge has now refused to throw his case out, so it moves forward.
This isn't a disagreement about immigration policy. It's a question about whether a badge lets someone walk onto private property without a warrant and demand you prove you belong in your own country. What would you have done if you were Leo, standing in your driveway with your ID in your hand?

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." "I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale." --Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816.

Libertarians support the free market, property rights, and individual liberty.

Why should peaceful migrants be forced to get government permission just to work here?

On this day, August 14th, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act, creating a government pension system for retirees and laying the foundation for the modern welfare state. This legislation expanded federal power into areas traditionally handled by families, communities, and private savings. It promised security but has grown into a massive intergenerational transfer program facing long-term insolvency.

The Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania critiques this welfare state expansion and advocates for self-reliance through personal savings, family support, and private markets. We believe individuals and voluntary associations are better equipped to provide security than centralized government programs. Let's pursue reforms that reduce dependency and restore personal responsibility.
