Presidio School is a college preparatory school that offers a challenging classical education where artistic, literary and scientific course work all are meaningful parts of the core curriculum. Presidio offers an educational model in which the arts, supports and stimulates learning in other domains such as math, science and reading – which in turn, supports and stimulates learning and valuation o

f the arts. This creates a web of influence that has the best possible chance of improving the success of all students. To further enhance the personal development and academic success of each student, instruction is presented in a setting where it is the goal of all faculty and staff to nurture and support every student’s journey towards academic excellence. Students are taught the value of respect, responsibility, and diversity. The Presidio learning community encourages independence of thought and deed, while teaching the need for self-imposed limits so as not to infringe upon the rights and freedoms of other community members. As evidence of the success of this academic model, Presidio School is an “A” school and was selected in 2007 from over 120,000 public, charter, and private schools as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Kristin Bannerman, deputy assistant secretary with the U.S. Department of Education cited Presidio’s high test scores and rigorous curriculum as the basis for the award. She stated, “Presidio is a model for the rest of the country.”

Yesterday Genesis and Lalo from stopped by Kindergarten!

Genesis gave a short presentation to teach students about libraries, what they offer, and how students can get their very own library cards! Lalo read a book to the students about being a good neighbor. Our librarian friends were even nice enough to bring books to share! Each student got to choose a book to take home with them.

A HUGE thank you to Genesis, Lalo, and the whole Woods Memorial Library team! 📚

Earlier this week our 7th grade Social Studies students put Galileo on trial! His crime? Committing heresy against the Catholic Church by arguing that the theory of heliocentrism, the belief that the sun was the center of the universe, was correct.

The prosecution and defense offered opening and closing statements and questioned witnesses including Pope Urban VIII. Several of the attorneys donned ties and witnesses were sworn in on a student planner.

The jury deliberated for six minutes before returning a verdict- guilty! The judge then sentenced Galileo to ten years in prison.

Thank you to Ms. Peterson for making learning about an important historical event interactive and fun!

¿Quién es? ¡Adivina Quién! in Spanish 2
Brown eyes? Blonde hair? Glasses? ¡Adivina quién!

Spanish 2 students had fun putting their new vocabulary into action with a Spanish version of Guess Who? They practiced describing hair color, eye color, and whether someone wears glasses, hats or accessories while asking questions, listening carefully, and racing to identify the mystery person.
Spanish + teamwork + a little friendly competition = a great day of learning!

Today was a busy lab day for our high school students!

In chemistry, students visited a “museum” in the classroom to observe various elements and record their properties.

Our anatomists observed the function of the catalase enzyme in our livers, and learned how various environmental conditions can denature enzymes.

Finally, our biologists are reviewing the scientific method at various lab stations.
