Our cultural education staff coordinates all spiritual and cultural programming, including worship and Sabbath services. They also manage holiday celebrations, rituals and instructional classes for residents of all faiths and denominations.

Banner and the UA Health Sciences folks are conducting a Fall Prevention Fair on Friday, 9/27/19 at theU of A Health Sciences Innovation Bldg at 1670 E Drachman St. from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. RSVP at: https://fallpreventionfair.eventbrite.com

Banner's Alzheimer's Institute is presenting a program called Home for the Holidays. It's a guide for making it less stressful if a family member has mild-to-moderate dementia. Thanks to Pesach and a few other minor interferences, I'm late posting. I apologize for that. We do hope your holiday was wonderful!

The Shmooz'n & Shpil'n held in March at The Forum was a smashing success. We had a good sized turnout, and lots of lively conversations. We keep bringing Jewish games for the Shpil'n part of the afternoon but, as usual, nobody wanted to stop Shmooz'n! This is such fun, because we get people to talk about themselves, their families, and their lives. I can't tell you how many great stories we've heard. You should really come join us and find out for yourselves! Just because we are meeting in a certain residential community does NOT mean you have to live there to join us!

Just yesterday we were at Broadway Proper, where we had a smallish group, but again the discussions were enjoyable, reminiscences, timely, and ageless.

We will be skipping May, because there are some time conflicts, but we will be back again in June, this time at The Fountains at La Cholla. Watch for details here as it gets closer, and try to join us! Meantime, have a lovely Memorial Day!

Breaking news! The next Shmooz,n & Shpil'n event will be held at The Forum on Monday, March 24th. As usual, it will be from 2-4 in the afternoon, and we will have a bissele nosh (little nibbles), some trinken (drinks), and lots of shmu'es (conversation). Be prepared to talk about growing up Jewish, how you celebrated holidays, the kinderlach (children/grandchildren), and whatever happens to come up. We'll also have some Jewish games, in case you would like to play. Also as usual, we have some gifts just for showing up, and maybe more for who knows what! We look forward to seeing you there!

W@e continue plans for the next Shmooz'n & Shpil'n event. Watch this space for more information. Now I want to ask for your help.

If you know of any Jewish Seniors who haven't yet heard about JEA, please spread the word. Word of mouth is the best endorsement any program can have, and we especially want to find as many people we can - especially those who are isolated from the Jewish community. Tucson has so much to offer our seniors, but many of them don't know how to access those services - or even that they exist! Please help us to help them!

2013 is almost over, and 2014 is upon us. This past year has been hectic! We launched our Shmooz'n & Shpil'n events, and they have been a resounding success! We are working on setting up more for "next year." We have found several new providers of services, ensuring that we can continue to meet your needs. We've been slowly expanding our marketing efforts, in hopes of reaching more Jewish Seniors in Pima County. We have lots more to do, and we anticipate an even bigger year to come. Please feel free to offer us suggestions and ideas, either here or by phone.

Unfortunatley we have had to cancel the Shmooz'n & Shpil'n scheduled for November 11th. Also, with all of the holidays (and parties!) coming up, we will most likely hold off until sometime after the first of the year. But stick with us, as we'll be posting all sorts of interesting tid-bits here.

Now to dig up my Bubba's special recipe for kugel with golden raisins.

OK, folks. Hallowe'en is over. Now it's time to prepare for what the news media is calling "Thanksgiv-ukah!" What are you planning for that big night? Turkey with Chanukah licht on the side?

Since we usually start eating relatively early on Turkey Day, I'm planning to light the Menorah just before desert. The meal will include potato latkes, with a fruit kugel and jelly doughnuts as some of the deserts.

Tell us how you plan to celebrate these two terrific - and food-specific - holidays.
