Richard Elías-Mission Library We're looking forward to seeing you! Our libraries welcome the 1 million+ readers, learners, doers, & dreamers of Tucson and Pima County, AZ. Edwards in 1994.

Our Facebook commenting guidelines: http://www.library.pima.gov/social-media-community-guidelines/ The Richard Elías-Mission Library opened in 1978, and is located on the southwest side of Tucson, adjacent to Kennedy Park and Lake. The Library is within sight of "A" Mountain, Tucson’s birthplace. Our Manager is Alina Rowe. Neighborhood folks affectionately call the sculpture in front of the library “Stonehenge,” but its real name is Na:nko Ma:s Du'ag Son, which means "Many Color Mountain" in the Tohono O'odham language. It was created by Chris Tanz, Susan Holman, and Paul T. The sculpture consists of two rows of colorful towers, evoking the silhouette of a mountain range. When explored close up you can see more subtle aspects: children’s handprints, animal carvings, and strips of copper. For our 30th anniversary in 2008, we added new artwork inside the library, a mural designed by internationally-known artist Hirotsune Tashima and four teens from The Youth In Arts Careers project. Together, they designed three 3' x 5' glazed ceramic murals that depict Pima County's past and present, along with Yaqui, Latino and other cultural elements of the Old Pueblo.

Join us in a Halloween celebration! Dress up, enjoy cookies and beverages while making a paper squishy, or decorate your own polaroid (while supplies last). Polaroids will be on a ticketed basis, first come, first serve. A themed backdrop will be provided.

Please be mindful of the library's Code of Conduct when dressing up. Staff may ask patrons to change or alter costumes if needed.

Are you a young movie fanatic? If that's the case, then come join us for our bi-weekly movie day at the Richard Elías-Mission Library on October 28th at 3:30 PM! We'll provide food and drinks at the showing. Only ages 9-21 allowed!

This week, we'll visit one of the all-time horror classic. Presenting: Creature from the Black Lagoon, directed by Jack Arnold.

Join the Library's Pride and Nuestras Raíces teams for a special hybrid author event with Jonny Garza Villa (via Zoom) and Sonido Reyes (in person) at the Richard Elías-Mission Library! Attendees can attend online or in person.

The co-hosts of the podcast Bidi Bidi Book Pod will talk about their most recent books, what it means to be a q***r author of color, and more! The event will include an audience Q&A and book signing (books will be available for purchase). Light refreshments will be served.
