Agnese Nelms Haury Program Agnese Nelms Haury cared deeply about the environment, science, social justice, international cooperation, and Southwest peoples and cultures. Haury.

Agnese Nelms Haury Program envisions a world in which tribal resilience, sovereignty, and ways of knowing are respected and advanced through globally impactful University of Arizona collaborations in research, education, and outreach. The Haury Program invests in people and programs that help make an impact in the areas of social justice and environment; further enhancing the legacy of Mrs. The Program concentrates its funding efforts primarily in the southwest United States at present. This geographic focus follows on Mrs. Haury’s interests. Additionally, we believe that the Southwest can be used as a model for programs in other parts of the world, especially arid and border lands with underserved communities.

The third, final day of the 2026 AISES National Conference was filled with activities, including our workshop, and lots of celebration of Native genius and community. Congratulations to the U of A AISES Chapter for being awarded AISES Chapter of the Year, and to Niko Sannches for his award. It was an honor and a pleasure to spend a week with you all!

Opening Plenary Discussion: Indigenous Futurism Technology is changing so fast that truth can be stranger than fiction. Unless you’re multiple bestselling author Daniel Wilson, a Cherokee citizen who has written Robopocalypse, How to Survive a Robot Uprising, and Hole in the Sky, his latest book. Wilson is an author and engineer with a PhD in robotics and other schooling in Artificial Intelligence. Wilson will be joined by Josh Hammonds (Lumbee), a lead engineer and subject matter expert with some 20 years working at Cisco Systems. The AISES 2026 Blazing Flame awardee, Hammonds leads 190 engineers globally on Cisco’s Collaboration Apps TAC teams. Joined by moderator Lee Francis, EdD (aka Dr. IndigiNerd), they will discuss the promises and challenges of A.I. and other technological trends.
