Our three Bookbikes give out free books, library cards, and information about library and literacy programs, as well as bike maps and information about bicycling events. Valdez Main Library, the Eckstrom-Columbus Library, and the Santa Rosa Library. They all go out on on monthly visits and appear at neighborhood events. In the first year, the Bookbike volunteers went to 91 events, rode 250 miles, talked to 16,046 people, and gave away 11,276 books! Our bookbike was inspired by writer Gabriel Levinson (www.bookbike.org), and the book "Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthier Planet," by Mia Birk. Many thanks to those who made this possible! Librarian Karen Greene, Arizona State Grants in Aid, Haley Tricycles of Philadelphia, Matt Zoll, and Literacy Connects.
